Advantages: Thrilling non-stop action with a comedy twist. Disadvantages: You may not be able to get up from your seat afterwards!
...DeepBlueSea may seem from the surface as a Jaws clone but I can assure you it is not. This a movie that is jam-packed with stunning special effects, talented actors, and a wonderful mix of elemental storylines with twists and turns in its plot. DeepBlueSea begins with the quest of a scientist who wishes to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. After a major discovery at their test center, a tropical storm bears down on the station, and things begin to go wrong. The film contains a combination of elements from The Poseidon Adventure, Jurassic Park, and, of course, Jaws but everything is very unique and original in it's own right making the film well worth seeing. The characters are very believable, and the actors play them to perfection in the most heightened, tense and dramatic moments of the film. The special effects...

Advantages: Excellent atmosphere Disadvantages: Slow to start
...transferred to the screen, with powerhouse performances by the entire cast - particularly that of John Hawkes as Bugsy Moran (but you would be hard pressed to go wrong with a cast that includes George Clooney, Bill Fichtner and John Reilly). It would seem that with The PerfectStorm and ThreeKings, Mark Wahlberg is setting out to redeem himself for such past efforts as The Big Hit. He absolutely shines here! Obvious comparisons to Das Boot will and have been made - I won't bother, only to say that this is Wolfgang Petersen's best work since.
Dialogue is rich and realistic. Structure is intriguing and well paced. Technical work is of the highest standard. I have little bad to say about this film. A note on the visual effects - they are so good and there are so many of them, that you soon forget about them - isn't that how it should be?
As someone...

Advantages: The storm and the acting Disadvantages: The plot starts slow and is pretty predictable
...that this is important character development but you learn more from there reaction to situations on the boat than is revealed on the land. It is good enough and provides an awesome amount of entertainment considering it is a true story.
The Captain played by George Clooney is brilliant. He makes it really believable that he is the captain by pushing the boat to its absolute limits making his crew question his ability and mental state. Mark Wahlberg (who plays Bobby Shatford) is also excellent as the inexperienced and love sick member of the crew. This combination of Clooney and Wahlberg is proving very successful since this is just as good as ThreeKings in which they also teamed up. All the supporting cast give individually great performances enhancing the film as a whole. The characters aren't that deep yet you know enough to keep you interested.
