Who is Peppa pig
Peppa pig is a successful children’s program that is currently been shown on Milkshake nick junior. I t is hugely popular with both boys and girls despite the fact the Peppa is the protagonist.
The stories revolve around the pig family Mommy pig, Daddy pig, Peppa and her younger brother, George.

This DVD is part of the merchandising that is available.
This DVD has a RRP of £12.99 but is currently available at Amazon for £3.98. It was released in 2007 so is a couple of years old but the DVD remains current. This DVD is classified a U
The episodes
The DVD contains ten episodes plus two bonus episodes so basically twelve episodes.
Muddy puddles
It starts with it raining so George and Peppa can’t play outside but once it stops she goes out to play jumping in muddy puddles .She has to be reminded to wear her Wellingtons so then she reminds George to do the same. They find a huge puddle and Peppa jumps in splashing George with mud who starts crying but once he is ok they splash each other with mud. The two go and ask Daddy pig what they have been doing and he makes silly guess to amuse them.
This episode is something my son has taken to heart and loves jumping in puddles but still
doesn’t care if he wears his wellies or not Mr Dinosaur is lost.
When George loses Mr Dinosaur his favourite toy Peppa turns detective in order to help him find him.
Peppa really doesn’t understand what a detective is but with Daddy pigs help they find Mr Dinosaur. It is lesson that I wish my son would learn as he can’t find something he put down two minutes earlier.
Polly Parrot
Granddad and granny pig get a new parrot who copies everything that is said. Peppa teaches Polly some new phrases
This once again is an episode where Peppa is a little but cheeky but it is all done in humour and the pigs all end up laughing.
Best Friends
Peppa and Susie sheep are best friends. Suzie comes over to play and Peppa wants to play with Suzie. George feels a little left out despite mommy trying to distract him with making cookies. When Peppa and Suzie play doctors and nurse George becomes the patient and Mommy pig brings him some cookies as medicine.
I actually feel really sorry for George in this episode as he wants to join in .I see this when my son wants to play with the older children but it does have a happy ending.
Hide and seek
Peppa and George play hide and seek .Like most little one’s George is not very good at hiding so Daddy pig hides him behind his newspaper.
I like this particular episode as it has helped teach my son the game but unfortunately he is no better than George and just hides laughing loudly or if it is his turn to count as he can’t count to ten just shouts out random numbers.
The playgroup
George starts at Peppa’s playgroup. Peppa isn’t keen as she wants to play with her friends however as the session continues and all her friends love George she comes round.
The consequence of this episode is that I am often made to draw pictures of dinosaurs .This episode is very reflective of how young children are.
Mummy pig at work
Mummy pig is very busy on the computer working. Peppa and George want to help but when she presses too many buttons it breaks and it takes Daddy pig to mend it while mummy pig makes lunch.
I wish this would teach my son to leave my lap top alone but it doesn’t .It does teach him however to play Mrs Chicken.
Camping
Peppa, mommy pig, Daddy pig and George all go camping. They all have tea and then off to bed. Unfortunately Daddy pig will not fit in the tent and decides to sleep outside until it starts to rain.
This represents the fun of camping but also has a laugh at Daddy pig at the size of his tummy which is a joke throughout the series.
Gardening
Peppa and George go to visit Grandpa and Granny pig and decide to grow some strawberries. They are disappointed to learn that they don’t grow immediately but next time they visit get to sample the strawberries .Then when it is George’s turn to pick what he wants to grow he wants to grow a Dinosaur.
My son loves gardening and loves this episode.
Bicycles
This is a story of how Peppa learns how to ride her Bicycle without stabilisers. She does this very successfully until she lands right on the pumpkin.
Initially Peppa laughs at riding his bicycle however her friends all think she is a baby too with stabilisers. It is representative of childhood how they are constantly changing.
The new car
After Daddy pig’s car breaks down he is loaned a new car by Granddad Dog from the garage while his car is repaired. This car has loads of buttons but Daddy pig can’t remember which button to press to get the roof up and they are getting wet as it starts to rain.
This is Daddy pig not listening and paying attention .My son’s favourite part of this episode is when he presses a button and rock music comes over the radio
Snow
It is snowing so George and Peppa go out to play in the snow. Mommy pig ensures they all wear these hat, scarf and gloves. They build a snowman and give him a hat and scarf as well. Unsurprisingly when Daddy pig comes out he is cold as he can’t find his hat and scarf and you will never guess where they are.
My son is a little obsessive with snowmen so gets very excited w hen this episode comes on.
Each Episode is only 5 minutes long and the DVD is 61 minutes long in total.
interactive games
There are two additional interactive games on this DVD jumping in muddles and the happy Mrs Chicken game.
These games are quite dull. The first you get to choose whether to be George or Peppa then press a button to make them jump up and down
The second is a repeat of the happy Mr chicken game the image blacks out and reloads each time an Egg is laid.
These are a good starting place for online games but don’t hold mine or my son’s attention for very long.
Overall
This DVD is an easy DVD for the little ones to watch. They all do seem to enjoy this show. I am yet to meet a pre school child who doesn’t like Peppa pig. This show generally does teach morals, learning to share and love and though they can get grumpy at times they all do tend to do the right thing in the end.
I would highly recommend this for any pre school child.
