Paul Blart dreams of becoming a full time State Trooper but he just cannot pass the fitness test. He suffers from diabetes which makes him pass out if he does not get enough sugar in his blood. As a compromise Paul works as a security guard in the local Mall and he is swore to protect the mall and its shoppers.
Paul has a daughter and lives with his Mom. His wife left him as soon as they were married as she only wanted her green card and so Paul is very lonely. His Mom and Daughter set about trying to find him a date but Paul is already ahead of them when he meets the new stall holder at the mall, Amy and instantly falls in love with her. Paul is not good with then ladies and so nothing happens with them.
Soon Paul is training a new security guard and uses this chance to impress Amy but things go from bad to worse for him when the Mall is taken over by robbers who have taken Amy and a few others hostage. As Paul is the only one inside the Mall it is up to him to try and free the hostages and keep in contact with the police outside.
Can Paul be the hero, will he ever get his
dream job of State Trooper and will Amy ever feel the same way about Paul as he does about her?
Well this film could be taken either way, it is one which you will either love or think is incredibly stupid. For both me and hubby we loved it and found it to be very funny. We3 were in the mood for a good laugh and was expecting good things from this film and I am so pleased that it did not disappoint.
The storyline is very good and there are a lot of great characters. I loved Kevin James who took the role of Paul and thought he did an excellent job. He made the character so likable and I instantly felt sorry for him having no lover. I think he worked well with the supporting actors and he did bring nearly all of the humour to the film. Jayma Mays took the role of Amy and I think she too did a great job. I liked the chemistry which she and the character of Paul had and when they worked together it made for some great viewing.
I liked how we had several other character who worked in the Mall added into the storyline as this did give it some depth as without hem it would have been quite boring and I especially liked how some of the stories developed and Paul was able to use the additional characters to make his character more comical and real.
The humour was not only spoken jokes but also visual. I did find it extremely funny when Paul would be riding around on his special vehicle even when he did nothing as the size of him made it look impossible for him to stay upright but maybe that we just me and hubby being daft! I liked how Paul would try to be tough and when he was trying to save the hostages I did laugh out loud at some of the daft things which he did.
The film was mainly set inside the Mall and it all looked great. I loved the Christmas theme and it really looked wonderful and very festive. There were a few outside shots but not many and they all did work and looked very authentic and real. The special effects in the film were all great and worked very well. I think a lot of time and effort went into making them look as good as they did. The music throughout the film was also very good and kept in keeping with the whole storyline. I think it was all appropriate for the places in which it was used and helped with the setting of the emotions of the scenes in which it was used.
The DVD which we have doe shave some bonus features which include:-
Deleted Scenes Action Sport Junkies Stunts On Set with mike ‘Rooftop’ Escamilla Fun on Set Mike V vs. mall Cop Mall Cop Response Free Running vs. Parkour Thoughts with Kevin James Sugar
I have not watched any of the bonus features so I am unable to make comment on them.
The running time of this film is 1 hour and 27 minutes and I found this to be a great length as if it was any longer I think that the story would have started to drag and may have even verged on getting boring. The certificate is a PG, there is some comic violence and mild language but nothing which I thought would be offensive to children and I would have no problems in letting my children watch this film, that is if they were not on holiday this week with Nanny and Granddad! We paid £7 for this DVD in Tesco which I felt to be a fair price.
I am definitely going to recommend this film if you want something light to watch which is very funny and has great characters.
