Paul Blart Mall Cop is all about a rather podgy man who wasn't fit enough to make it as a cop at the police academy, so he ends up taking a job as a security guard at a local mall, where he polices the mall on a segway (one of those futuristic two wheeled motorised scooter things). One day, Paul spots an attractive young woman and doesn't feel too confident about getting with her but things take a turn for the worse when a bunch of thugs (including one person who used to bully Paul at school) decide to take over the mall, taking hostages including Pauls new flame. Paul is unaware of the situation being distracted by something else as everyone else evacuated, so it ends up being up to him to save the day but can he do it?! you'll have to watch the movie to find out, of course!

This movie reminded me of the family friendly comedy movies of the late 80s and early 1990s. Its pretty predictable stuff and its not particularly memorable, though there are some what I'd call 'chuckle worthy' moments, there's nothing much worth noting. If you know of the main actor, Kevin James, you'll likely know that his main role has been the character of Doug in the US sitcom King of Queens, which is a show im quite fond of (though it ended a year or two back) and his role as Paul Blart in this movie is quite similar to Doug. Both characters are somewhat unconfident in their skin and both shows are comedy based, infact I thought that the movie was more of a TV movie, it felt more like a long sitcom episode than a fully blown movie. The character of Paul is somewhat likeable but I didn't feel too attached to him, you feel rather sorry for him but I didn't feel like I was really scared for him and he didn't leave me in stitches (laughter wise) either, so, its not that great. I think younger viewer, kids maybe 8+ or thereabouts, would find it quite funny for the visual humour but for those of us who are a bit older, well, the chances are we'll have seen most of it before - if you like films that mock larger, under confident people, then this might be for you but otherwise, yeah you'll probably get the odd laugh or two but thats about it. The premise of the movie is not the most interesting I suppose but I can't help but check out any movies with Kevin James in them because I enjoy King of Queens so much, though I should really know better lol I wouldn't say that it was an utterly boring movie, just its not very memorable and you watch it thinking well this is ok but nothing more, its one of those movies.
- Would I Recommend It? -
I think younger adults/kids will enjoy this more than older viewers perhaps. Its not awful but its certainly not the funniest movie around either, its all fairly predictable stuff but if it were to be shown on TV (as it struck me as quite a TV movie, if you know what I mean) I wouldn't say no to watching it again. Its good as some light entertainment but really its no more than that, so you can make up your own mind based on what I said, as to whether you'd wanna see it or not. I'd say that if its something that appeals to you then its worth renting it but I wouldn't bother paying much for it on DVD, so I cautiously just about recommend it.
Thanks for reading my reivew, I hope you found it useful, thanks for any and all r/r/c's. This review may also be posted on Dooyoo UK under the same username.

Harmless and forgettable, that's my take. James is certainly talented, but he surely deserves a better script. If you want to see a funnier mall cop movie, get OBSERVE & REPORT instead! Great review once again! Chris xxx
