Paul Blart: Mall Cop is the newest release from Happy Madison Pictures, Adam Sandler’s film production company. I am a big Adam Sandler fan and usually enjoy these films so settled down to watch this film with every intention of it being good. Plot / Story ------------
Paul Blart is a single dad who is raising his daughter himself after his wife (who only married him for a green card) left him. He lives with his mother in New Jersey and dreams of being a state trooper. The only trouble is, that besides being a little overweight Paul suffers from low blood sugar leading to him passing out if he doesn’t have something sugary at steady intervals. He has never passed the physical test to become an officer so instead works at the local mall as a security guard. He is a little too good at his job as he takes it way to seriously. When a gang of armed robbers take over the mall and hold 6 people hostage, including Paul’s daughter and his love interest. It’s up to him to put all of his training into practise and prove he isn’t just a waste of space. Characters ---------------
Paul Blart is played by Kevin James who has been in various comedies that I have seen. Most recently I recall him from “I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry” which he played alongside Adam Sandler. He is the typical underdog character with a good heart. He is likable and if anything, a little pathetic. Kevin James plays the character well, with the role being written with him in mind (I assume, since he wrote the film too) he has a very physical comedy with him stumbling around and falling over his own feet a lot, which did make me giggle. There really aren’t too many other characters really who are main focus of the film, except maybe Pauls love interest Amy, played by Jayma Mays. I’ve never heard of her at all, but she did the sweet soft spoken mall worker role justice and I have to admit to thinking she was actually very pretty.
My thoughts and Opinion ----------------------------------- As I have said, this is a physical comedy that revolves mostly around Paul’s inability to do things the conventional way, with his reliance on sugar to keep him going and his cubby stature, he has to think of different ways to beat the bad guys. This film was right up my alley for some silly humour that was easy to watch without trying too hard. It kept my interest completely for the entire length of the film.
I did compare it to die hard at one point, with the similarities of being stuck in a building with crooks and having to stay below their radar to help save the day. There was a decent amount of action in the film, from fist fights to car chases and even an explosion. It is by no means messy or gory and there is no real violence at all, just the silly kind of fights that you can imagine an overweight mall security guard having. I also thought the romantic aspect of the film was nicely balanced. Some of these films I find appear to throw in a romantic twist as they almost think it just should be there, where as in this case, it was integrated well with the main storyline and actually very sweet in my opinion.
I really enjoy this type of film as they always have a light hearted feel good factor that Paul Blart: Mall Cop also has. It’s a good little story that although not that original, is still reliable for some good comedy moments and will, if nothing else, leave you with a smile at the end. Which I think is exactly what a film of this nature is set out to do, and it succeeded. I wouldn’t necessarily watch this film again in the near future, but I will buy it on DVD when it is released, and I would be inclined to watch it again, just a bit further down the line.
Thanks for reading :)

I agree with Plod. I have never seen this but a most helpful review. Its very hard to write a good plot summary without giving too much away and yours was spot on. I'd like this. Great review.
