Failing at his dream job to become a cop, Paul Blart (Kevin James) takes on his role as a security guard in a New Jersey mall with much enthusiasm. As an overweight and devoted single father, Blart patrols the mall on his two-wheeled Segway, making occasional stops at the stall of Amy (Jayma Mays), a beautiful sales assistant, who he is secretly in love with.
On Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, the mall is taken over by a gang of thieves who take hostages with them, including Amy and Blart's daughter, Maya (Raini Rodriquez). Blart finds himself faced with the decision of leaving the mall into the safety of the police or with the brave and dangerous task of trying to save those he loves along with the mall which he feels responsible for. He chooses the latter option and refuses to leave, despite the pleads of the police and, in doing so, becomes the police and SWAT team's eyes and ears as well as a target to the thieves.
His pursual of the gang and, in turn, the gang's pursual of Blart, takes you on a hilarious rollercoaster ride including falling air vents, sun beds, unbreakable glass doors, lots of toys, guns and some brilliant stunt moves from the group of thieves. Will Paul Blart save the mall and those within it or will he fail and let everyone down like people are expecting of him?
Although this movie has had some average reviews with people saying it hasn't been as funny as they thought it would, I really cannot see where they were coming from and think they must have been watching a completely different film! I thought Paul Blart: Mall Cop was a brilliant and completely funny watch and I almost didn't stop laughing the whole way through. Kevin James (the star of the American sitcom The King of Queens), is a great actor who plays this role to perfection and brings nothing but laughs to the screen. This isn't a slapstick comedy; the humor is more real to life and is based on his weight and how he takes to the task of rescuing the mall. I can say nothing more than it is simply a brilliant and very very funny film.
