protect his turf, he's Paul Blart: Mall Cop.Mild-mannered Paul Blart (Kevin James, The King of Queens) has always had huge dreams of becoming a State Trooper. Until then, he patrols the local mall as a security guard. With his closely cropped moustache, personal transporter and gung-ho attitude, only Blart seems to take his job seriously. All that changes when a team of thugs raids the mall and takes hostages. Untrained, unarmed and a super-size target, Blart has to become a real cop to save the day.

Last weekend we had a night in and me and my mum decided to get a DVD to watch with some popcorn. I generally like comedy films so we decided with the film Mall Cop which looked pretty funny. The cover was quite eye catching with the face of Paul Blart. The main character looked familiar but I was not sure who it was. The interesting thing about this film is that it is released by Happy Madison’s Pictures owned by top comedian Adam Sandler. I thought it had to be good as I am a fan of Adam Sandler.

I was looking forward to having a chuckle to a film that night and I was not disappointed. Even though it is not the funniest film I have seen, there are plenty of moments that make you laugh. I thought that Paul was a brilliant character. He is always trying to do his best but seems to get little back. He is a very shy guy and he gets embarrassed in front of Amy who he falls for. The film shows how depressing his life can be and you do feel sorry for him. He is a likeable character. The story is pretty predictable but it is perfect if you need a heartless film that you do not want to really think about. It is sometimes a bit over the top but I found it quite entertaining. I think that children would appreciate this more as I have seen negative reviews of this from teens and adults. It is a PG after all.
In my opinion the acting is not top notch but it is ok and enough to make you giggle. The characters are good and there is a wide variation with the typical good guy and bad guy. It includes simple characters and a simple plot. The locations were not limited even though the bulk of the story happens in a mall this is an advantage. Here are a lot of shops and corridors to keep the action interesting.
The film has a moral of not judging people by the cover and Paul shows this well. This is good advice for a PG audience that you need to look deeper to see what people are like. There is a small twist in the film but I guessed it anyway. The film has more potential but I quite liked it being this way. I borrowed the DVD to my sister the other night and she said it was pretty funny but said it is not the best comedy in the world.
OVERALL
Even though the film mainly received critical reception I thought it was a good light hearted film which made me laugh throughout. It provides a relaxed time where you can just watch and not have to think too much about it. I think Paul was a brilliant protagonist and the story was ok. It is not a waste of time and if you want a light comedy this is a good choice. DVD – released May 19 2009.
You can buy the DVD on Play.com for £10.99 although I found my copy in the local superstore for £8.99. The DVD has many special features including commentaries, stunts and on the set footage.

...- Story - Paul Blart Mall Cop is all about a rather podgy man who wasn't fit enough to make it as a cop at the police academy, so he ends up taking a job as a security guard at a local mall, where he polices the mall on a segway (one of those futuristic two wheeled motorised scooter things). One day, Paul spots an attractive young woman and doesn't feel too confident about getting with her but things take a turn for the worse when a bunch of thugs ... ...hostages including Pauls new flame. Paul is unaware of the situation being distracted by something else as everyone else evacuated, so it ends up being up to him to save the day but can he do it?! you'll have to watch the movie to find out, of course! - Thoughts & Opinions - This movie reminded me of the family friendly comedy movies of the late 80s and early 1990s. Its pretty predictable stuff and its not particularly memorable, though there are ...

...job to become a cop, Paul Blart (Kevin James) takes on his role as a security guard in a New Jersey mall with much enthusiasm. Advantages: Easy to watch & enjoyable Disadvantages: Lighthearted subtle comedy may not suit everyones needs
This movie is a lighthearted comedy that i thoroughly enjoyed.
The film's main character is Kevin James who I had never heard of until I stumbled across a classic American tv show called 'King of Queens'. Following this I have watched 'Hitch' and 'I now pronounce you Chuck & Larry' both which stars the talented Kevin James.
The film is centered around a down to earth, single dad who is devoted to his family and thoroughly enjoys his job as a mallcop (James). His one dream is to be a cop but unfortunately he has failed on several occasions due to his chubby exterior. His dedication to his work is sometimes seen as annoying to his co-workers and he always seems to be at the heart of his co-workers jokes, which makes you love the character all the more.
Throw in the fact that he stumbles and makes a fool of himself in front ...

PaulBlart does not consider himself to be one of life's successes; and neither does anyone else. His wife married him for an American passport, then left him. He wants to become a state tropper, but isn't accepted because of a health problem and so is stuck in a dead end job as a mall security guard. And he can't find a woman, although he has strong feelings for Amy, who works on a stall in the mall. He tries to make the best of things though by doing his job by the book - much to the dismay of speeding pensioners. Then a team of criminals decide to take over the mall, in the hope of escaping with thousands of dollars of mall money. Blart, who is initially unaware that anything is wrong, doesn't manage to escape with everyone else. Can he do anything to stop the criminals? Will he ever become a state trooper? DVD Description
Paul Blart (Kevin James – I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY) is a hard worker, but has never landed his dream job of being New Jersey state trooper due to his excess weight. Determined to support his mother and his daughter, Blart takes the slightly less glamorous post as the security guard at his local shopping mall. He never complains, approaching the job with impressive diligence and pride, but doesn't get much respect for it. It's only when a group of misfits in Santa's Helper disguises take hold of the mall and several hostages, that Blart's would-be cop smarts come in handy and he gets a chance to shine. With a deadly situation on hand, Blart may finally be able to show the world (and his romantic interest, who just happens to be one of the hostages) what he's made of. Though the villains have several advantages over him, Blart has a Segway scooter and a big heart on his side.
