shouldn't Harrison Ford take on a new continuing character in Tom Clancy's CIA analyst Jack Ryan? In this film, directed by Phillip Noyce, Ford picked up the baton when Alec Baldwin, who played Ryan in The Hunt for Red October, opted for a Broadway role instead. In this film, Ryan and his family are on vacation when Ryan saves a member of the British royal family from attack by Irish terrorists. The next thing he knows, the Ryan clan has been targeted by the same terrorists, who invade his Maryland home. The film can't shed all of Clancy's lumbering prose, or his techno-dweeb fascination with spy satellites and the like. But no one is better than Ford at righteous heroism--and Sean Bean makes a suitably snakey villain. --Marshall Fine

Advantages: Amazing plot, and Harrison Ford! Disadvantages: None
...gets into his parts.
Patriot Games in one of the earlier films in his modern run of success. He played ex-CIA agent Jack Ryan, who after intervening in an extremist Irish attack on a royal, has to fight to protect his wife and child, as well as his own life, after killing one of the terrorists brothers in self-defence. It's tension all the way, and you'll be sitting on the edge of your seat for the duration. Of course, Harrison Ford plays an excellent ... ...together like a dream.
Patriot Games is based on a Tom Clancy novel, and therefore you can expect a quite intoxicating mix of suspense, military realism, and a plotline that makes you believe it could really have happened. This is a great film, I recommend it to all, and if you love Harrison Ford films, then this one should definitely be in your collection. ...

Advantages: Great Storyline Good Acting Disadvantages: A few deviations from the book may upset die-hard Clancy fans
Harrison Ford is once again cast in an action type life saving hero role.
This time Ford plays Jack Ryan a retired CIA operative and marine who now teaches history at the naval academy. While on holiday with his family in London he is present for a machine gun attack on the car belonging to the cousin of the Queen. With flagrant disregard for his own safety, Ryan proceeds to shoulder barge one assailant and disarm him before gunning two more down. ... ...shoulder and in hospital but it does save the royals.
Jack is highly commended for his actions both by the Queen's cousin and by the British press. He finds out that the assailants were actually Irish Republican Terrorists (IRA) and that one of them is in custody on his was to the Isle of Wight. Naturally the IRA are not best pleased with Mr Ryan's actions and of course the terrorist in custody played by none other than Sean Bean is broken out.

Okay, so what do you get for your money - well, there's Harrison Ford and Sean Bean for a start and what a start!
This little masterpiece involves an IRA terrorist (Bean) whose plot is foiled by an off duty American (Ford) who kells Bean's brother, which can only mean one thing - VENGEANCE and Bean makes a wonderful villain.
After that it's tensiuon and thrills all the way right until the climax in a dark house (where else) followed by a fight ...
