Paddy McGuinness first came to my attention when I watched him playing alongside Peter Kay in Phoenix Nights. I took an instant like to him and even more so when he again started with Peter Kay in Max and Paddy's Road to nowhere. He seemed to be very funny in both of these shows and I thought he would be good doing his stand up comedy. When the DVD came out I though it would be one to get but soon forgot about it. I finally managed to get myself a copy but then had the thought of whether he would be quite as funny and witty without Peter Kay beside him.
As anyone who has seen Paddy staring in the above mentioned shows will realise he is sex mad and that is indeed reflected in the DVD.
At the very beginning of the DVD we are supposedly watching Paddy getting ready, the man is actually a very fat man who is wrapping himself in cling film and struggling to fit into his clothes, when he is dressed he instantly turns in Paddy. The beginning of the show shows Paddy coming on stage with several barely dressed women and singing a short song. We then move into the jokes which are to start with average and they are all ones which I have mainly heard before. He does talk about Robbie Williams and the time when he was invited to go and stay with him in America for the week, but even in this tale he talks about sex.
There is a lot of interaction between Paddy and the audience and he likes to take the pee out of some audience members and insult the ones who get up and move from their seats. The jokes and insults which he uses do all seem to have been used time and time again.
The chapters on the DVD are:-
Intro A Bit of a March Out Robbie The Naked Truth Porn Mags STD Clinic Hoodies Ask Me A Question Taking the Piss Ready to Rumble
Well I suppose from the Chapter titles you have probably guessed the entire collection of jokes which he is going to use. Saying that though I did hear some very funny ones which I had not heard before and I have now learnt why I have so many odd socks when I do the washing. I also caught sight of my husband screwing his face up and wincing when Paddy was on about the treatment at the STD clinic!
Overall I would say that this is a quite funny DVD but I have heard a lot better. I think that honestly Paddy seems to be much funnier with his side kick, Peter Kay.
The copy of the DVD which I have does have some bonus material which includes:-
Life on the Dark Side - documentary reveals what went on behind the scenes with Paddy's showbiz friends getting involved Paddy v's Soccer AM sketch Photo Gallery
Me and my hubby did watch these features and thought that the Life on the Dark side sketch was very funny, maybe even funnier than some of the jokes in his show. I was surprised by some of the celebrities which were featured, Robbie even made an appearance for this one. The soccer AM sketch was very average and the photo gallery was quite boring really.
The DVD which I have cost me £2 from EBay which is a good bargain. It was released in 2006 and has a running time of 67 minutes which I feel is just long enough.
The DVD does have a 15 certificate which I feel is appropriate as long as it is mature 15 year olds which are watching.
I would recommend this DVD to watch as long as you don't expect too much and you are not expecting to be uncontrollably laughing in you seat, if you want that then I would recommend Peter Kay!
