You sit at home, on your couch. Maybe with a couple of mates.
Maybe by your self. You put in your DVD...and start to play party monster - .... this movie is a unique ride in your living room.
The movie is based on a true story. A story of drug sex and more drug fuled partying in New York in the late 80s early 90s. It tells the story how of too much psychedelic raving can eventually lead to punishment - and in this case imprisonment.
The movie is based on two main real life characters, Michael Alig, and James St. James. Michael Alig is currently in prison completing an undefined sentence...while his friend wrote a book on their life in New York. This book was snapped up by Hollywood directors of course, to be made into a movie, which was delayed so that Macaulay Culkin could grow into the part.
This adaptation is to convey the main series of events of their time in New York, but mainly focuses on Micheal Alig's popularity after arriving in New York to create a new life for him self. He works his way up to become the host of the most disturbingly creative Acid House clubbing culture New York has seen.
The movie is shot on digital format. This means you can tell it's not a $100 million made movie, it looks more real - which in this case is an advantage.
The acting is fantastic and reflective of the true charcaters. Both characters in real life were quirky, flamboyant, experimental, camp, ADD and hilarious. Only child stars such as Macaulay Culkin, who made a comeback after 10 years to do this special performance. And the intelligent quirky character Seth Green, who absorbed the character of James St. James perfectly if you have read the book could pull off such unique personas.
Even if you have not read the book, the movie is pretty straight forward to follow.
Many laughs, and creativeness put this movie in my top 5 of all time. It is an acquired taste - but I'm sure many of you would love to see something young and refreshing.
I give this movie 5/5 five stars out of five.
Recommend: If you are a fan, a good idea is to rent the documentary, which has real footage of some of the main characters. The documentary is called "Party Monster, the Shockumentry".
