standard chick flick that it may first appear to be. Relocating the novel from Ireland to America, multiple Oscar-winner Hilary Swank stars as the young woman who has recently lost her husband. And yet amidst her grief, she discovers a series of letters that hes written to help. These letters give her certain things she has to do, to help her move on with her life. Its not a completely clean adaptation of the book, and yetP.S. I Love Youhas more than enough in its tank to qualify as a good, quality bona fide weepy. Swank in particular is a terrific actress, and delivers another worthy performance here. Credit too to Gerard Butler (Phantom Of The Opera,300) for his work as her late husband. The film does have a few problems. It meanders a little, and its running time could use a little pruning. Yet nonethelessP.S. I Love Youis a well made, engaging drama, and likely to be responsible for a fair bit of blubbing among its target audience by the time the credits roll. Worth a look. --Jon Foster

Advantages: Moving film with a good story Disadvantages: Bad Irish Accents
the accents just still did not seem true and I do apologise if the accents were real but on the film they sounded so awful. We do not hear the accents very often so do not let this put you off from the film.
The DVD which I have does have some bonus material which included:-
Music Video 'Same Mistake' by James Blunt
Additional Scenes
A Conversation with Author Cecelia Ahern
The Name of the Game is Snaps: A How to Video
There really is nothing special to these extras, the music video is good but only as I am a fan of James Blunt. The conversation with the original author has no interest to me as I have never read the book and I am not too interested in the additional scenes as they cant be much good if they were not included in the film.
The film has a running time of 120 minutes and I found I was not at all loosing interest during ...
Advantages: Lovely story, touching, emotional, good cast Disadvantages: Bit soppy, some might not think its as good as the book
To be honest, I am not at all a fan of films which have been adapted from books, as I have yet to find one which has actually been any good. The Harry Potter films just don't have the magic of the books, The Devil Wears Prada film wasn't fab either so these films tend to be disappointing for me as I loved the books and thought the films didn't match up exactly. However, I couldn't stand the book this film is based on so I held out hope that the film might be marginally better than its book!
P.S. I Love You tells us the story of Holly and Gerry, a young married couple very much in love with each other. Tragedy strikes when Gerry dies of a brain tumour and leaves Holly distraught and alone, missing her beloved Gerry. But she finds hope again in the form of letters from Gerry, from beyond the grave, guiding her and letting her know that ...
Advantages: Emotionally charged - thought provoking. Disadvantages: None.
from Gerry telling her he wants her to get dressed and go celebrate her birthday with her friends. Shaken from her depression, Holly does as he asks and goes out with her friends to celebrate her birthday.
As the days and weeks go by, Holly receives more letters from Gerry, each one of them asking her to perform a certain task, and every one of them signed; P.S. I Love You. Following the instructions on the letters, Holly's depression slowly lifts, and, with Gerry's guidance, she learns how to enjoy life once again?
'P.S. I Love You' is an incredibly heart-warming film, and a great cinematic achievement in unpretentious storytelling.
As you will have guessed by the title, the movie is a weepy so make sure you have a box of tissues at hand - what the title doesn't tell you is that it will make you smile and laugh as well as make ...

DVD Description
Dylan Kidd follows up his well-received ROGER DODGER with this adaptation of Helen Schulman's novel. Adapted by Kidd and Schulman, P.S. tells the story of a frustrated thirtysomething who is desperate to make a human connection. Louise Harrington (Laura Linney) is the director of admissions for Columbia University's Master of Fine Arts program. She is also very lonely. Her best friends are her philandering ex-husband, Peter (Gabriel Byrne), and her ultra-horny childhood companion, Missy Goldberg (Marcia Gay Harden). But when Louise stumbles across the application of a hopeful student, her world is thrown upside down. It turns out this applicant, F. Scott Feinstadt (Topher Grace), shares the exact name, face, and talent of her long-deceased first love. Unable to contain herself, Louise throws herself into a passionate affair with F. Scott, which leads to disturbed confusion and forces Louise to decide what to do with the rest of her life. Featuring standout performances from the always-reliable Linney and the charismatic Grace, P.S. is another truly modern tale from Kidd, whose directorial vision is reminiscent of bitter provocateurs Neil Labute and James Toback.
