Review: If you watch an Ozu film without subtitles, believe me, you understand what the characters are saying. (Jim Jarmusch, )
Advantages: use of colour, sets, music Disadvantages: subtitles
...If you can speak French, or can cope with subtitles, this film is a must! Dark in a post-noir way, with sinisterly strange characters and a superb plot, entwined with a love story and great acting, make this a classic cult film. Beautifully filmed with amazing use of colour, sets, and sound, this film, about a lodger in a block of flats in a sort of post-apocalyptic france, where not everything is as it seems, takes all the senses on a twisty journey, and out safely the other end. The memorable aspect of this film is the character sketches portrayed in it - caricatures of people we all know combine to make a tenement of kooks we care about. Everything about this film is good, even the subtitles make sense!...

Advantages: Clever and surprising take on a serious theme Disadvantages: Build up a little drawn out
...Ant and Dec....Bacon and eggs...thunder and lightning...Germany and comedy....hang on a second!!! What was the last one? The Germans have a reputation as being a somewhat humourless race but one of last years biggest screen hits was a German film. "Goodbye Lenin" broke box office records in Germany and won awards at many of the world's film festivals.
That the German film industry has made such a big hit is not the only surprise. The subject of this extraordinary movie is also something of an eye-opener. Set against the backdrop of Berlin at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall, this charming film tells the story of the events of 1989 in a truly memorable fashion.
1989 and Alex Kerner is a teenager in Berlin. He is an idealistic young man who is involved, like many of his peers at the time, in trying to bring about vhange in East...

Advantages: Hilliarious comedy, outstanding acting, great storylines. Disadvantages: Prehaps a bit expensive?
...and soon came over to England, after ten years and ten series it ended in May 2004.
I must have seen every episode of Friends well over 10 times now, (some may call that a bit 'sad' but oh well!), The performance of all six actors and actresses is outstanding and every episode has me in stiches of laughter!
The Friends Complete BoxSet Series 1-10 cost me £189 from HMV when it was first released, it now costs just £99 and you can get it from Virgin, HMV, Woolworth, Amazon, Ebay ect! There are 30 discs in total, all of which are of excellent quality, great sound ect. All together there are 236 episodes, each episode lasts approx. 25 mins. There a few special features including extended lenght episodes, flashback gag reels and a few features. There are subtitles in the following languages: English, French, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish...
