non-fiction bookThe Hot Zone(purchased by a rival studio), they took the basic idea of a fatal virus on the loose in the US, added Dustin Hoffman and director Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot) and produced an unusual thriller--a surprise hit--calledOutbreak. The other picture, slated to star Robert Redford and Jodie Foster, fell through. The premise ofOutbreak, which owes something to Elia Kazan's 1950 plague-scare movie,Panic in the Streets, is as terrifying as it is timely. As developers slash their way deeper into the previously unexplored tropical rainforests, they are exposed to radically new forms of life, including diseases, that in these days of commonplace international travel could turn into deadly epidemics almost before we know it. Hoffman's character and his estranged wife (Rene Russo) are disease experts called in to identify the unknown killer, which was carried into the country by an illegally smuggled monkey. The best sequence shows the disease spreading--through recycled air on a passenger jet or a sneeze in a crowded cinema. The final chase is pretty conventional but the cast is terrific, including Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland, Cuba Gooding Jr., J.T. Walsh and Zakes Mokae.--Jim Emerson

This means the town is quarantined and its a race against time to find a cure before the government blown the town up. This makes way for some tense confrontations between medical researchers and the military and there is even a sprinkle of action. It has great special effects to bring the diseases symptoms to life and although horrible it looks very realistic. All in all it is a unique film that is wonderfully entertaining and I highly recommend it.
...Outbreak, looks at a fictional outbreak of a deadly virus.
Outbreak is about the discovery of a lethal virus called Motaba in Africa, by Colonel Sam Daniels (Dustin Hoffman) who works for the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases. Daniels asks his superior, Brigadier General Billy Ford (Morgan Freeman) to put out an alert for the disease, but Ford refuses. When the Motaba is transported to US by an infected monkey, ... ...outbreak of the disease, but is again hampered by Ford. Daniels seeks assistance from his ex-wife, Dr Robby Keough (Rene Russo), who works for the Center for Disease Control, and it becomes a race against time to contain the disease before it gets out of control. It also transpires that Ford and Major General Donald McClintock (Donald Sutherland) have history with Motaba in the past when they dealt with the disease unconventionally.

This is a scary story about chemical warfare. In Zaire, a village is infected by a deadly virus called ‘Motaba’, it appears similar to the factual ‘Ebola’ virus, which makes your eyes bleed and eats you from the inside out. The surviving few expect to be picked up by the military but are instead blown up to prevent the spread of the disease. The incident remained on secret file.

This excellent thriller starring Dustin Hoffman takes the viewer from war torn Africa to a US town eventually under Marshall Law. The performances in it are believable and entertaining with Donald Sutherland cropping up in yet another film where he palys an aging baddie! The storyline revolves around a virus thought wiped out by an huge air attack on an African village - organised by Sutherland. Several years later, the virus mutates and infects ... ...The battle is on to find the monkey and produce an antidote - with Sutherland and a reluctant Morgan Freeman doing their best to stop the whole process.
The action doesn't stop until the final few minutes saving the unfortunate town from being wiped out by air attack in a similar that the African village was. Definately see! ...

Advantages: Hilarious main feauture and loads of brilliant special features. Disadvantages: The humour can sometimes appear "desperate"!
Another simply hilarious film from the director of the popular Scary Movie, Keenan Ivory Wayons. Much of the humour seen in Scary Movie is integrated and developed in this masterpiece, as two desperate African American FBI agents disguise themseleves as the super-rich Brittany and Tiffany Wilson! The film breaks out into frantic humour when the Wilson sisters gain facial scars from a near car accident and they refus to leave the hotel room. In order to keep their jobs, the copeland have no alternative but to disguise themselves as the sisters.
This is a typical American comedy film that is overloading with attitude and is a film that will guarantee outbreaks of laughter from start to finish.
Along with the main feature, the DVD is a also packed with fun filled speacial features that enable hours of fun and entertainment. If ...

DVD Description
In director Wolfgang Petersen's fast-paced, intelligently written thriller, Dustin Hoffman plays Col. Sam Daniels, an expert on infectious diseases who is called in to study the outbreak of a deadly illness in Zaire. He finds a virus that spreads so quickly it could wipe out an entire nation in just a few weeks, and he believes that it might have spread to the United States. With the help of his ex-wife (Rene Russo), who works at the Centers for Disease Control, Daniels tracks the virus to the quiet seaside town of Cedar Creek, California. His superiors' reticence to help begins to raise questions in Daniels's mind, and he must find a cure before a panicky U.S. army general decides to kill the town's populace in order to save the world. The all-star cast includes Hoffman, Russo, Kevin Spacey, Donald Sutherland, Morgan Freeman, and Cuba Gooding, Jr.
