There are certain actors that I seem to be able to watch in just about any film. It doesn't tend to matter how good or bad the film actually is I'll still end up watching it at some point. One of those actors is Denzel Washington and so while browsing in HMV the other day I came across Out Of Time, staring Denzel. I'd never heard of it before but based on his track record of movies decided it was a safe gamble to take. So with all this in mind I sat down to watch it this weekend to see if my purchase had paid off.
Denzel stars as Matthias Whitlock, the chief of police in Banyan Key a small town in Florida. The community is one of those places where nothing major really happens so when a fire kills two people it makes for big news. To start with it seems to be quite straight forward but when Whitlock starts to put the evidence together he is in for a big shock. He finds himself involved in a race against time to cover up the evidence and find out what's going on before he himself is implicated. In a race against his own Police force and ex wife can Whitlock solve the case before he becomes a major suspect?
While I wasn't sure what to expect from this film when I put it on the DVD player I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It didn't seem to make it into the cinemas but the film itself is a very good thriller. The plot held my interest for the full 101 minute run time and I even found myself thinking it could have been a little longer. I felt that unlike a lot of thrillers this one had a number of new ideas that kept it fresh and interesting. The fact that it had been bought as a bit of a gamble certainly seemed to pay off.
I'd seen one of the previous efforts from director Carl Franklin, High Crimes and certainly hadn't been too impressed by it. I hadn't enjoyed his direction in that film but he seems to have improved massively for this movie. The camera work is quite fluid and all the scenes seem to flow together quite nicely. I thought that he did a good job of bringing the script to the big screen and added suspense with his choice of music and camera angles.
Of course it helps that Franklin gets the special effects right. The scenes in the hotel on the Balcony and after the fire really give the film a sense of realism and it's perhaps this that makes it far more enjoyable than Franklin's last movie. Of course the script is far better than the one in High Crimes as well, which played a huge part in how poor that movie actually was. With the writer also being the brains behind a few episodes of Family Guy it was possible that this wouldn't work but Franklin seems to have been able to make it into a very enjoyable movie.
It has helped that Franklin had a decent leading man, although that as no excuse in High Crimes with Morgan Freeman. I felt though that the lead role in this was almost written for Denzel and he takes to the role very well. The character is explored in quite a bit of detail, giving the viewer a lot of background on him and Denzel looks comfortable in this type of role. The character really suited him and in typical Denzel way he really stole the show and made the film. With this sort of film it probably wouldn't matter who was alongside him but Franklin seems to have made a few decent choices.
In Eva Mendes they have a very good choice for the leading lady. There is a bit of chemistry between her and Denzel that works well for their characters. She puts in a very solid performance and if it hadn't been Denzel opposite her I think she could have still made this a decent movie alone. The other lead female character played by Sanaa Lathan wasn't quite as comfortable or assured as Mendes but all in all she too put in a decent enough performance. The rest of the cast put in decent performances that really helped to make this a decent film and I couldn't find a single cast member to really criticise as they all did their jobs well.
Overall this is a very decent film. It didn't really seem to appear in the cinemas, which has since seeing it surprised me. It provides you with 101 minutes of enjoyable viewing and kept my attention throughout. The cast are very good and the script works quite well. Of course there are things that could have been better but they aren't really necessary as the film is good enough as it is. If you like a good thriller, with a smidgen of action then I would really recommend Out Of Time for your next visit to Blockbusters for a decent Friday or Saturday night movie.
Advantages: Eva Mendes, some nice action sequences, suspense Disadvantages: Slight tedium, I got sick of watching it after awhile
...his scent. Things don't turn out to be as simple as that (if you can call that simple) Denzel starts to believe of that there's some sort of espionage going on and all was not what it seems with the bit on the side what ever her name was. This was a medicore film, I did quite like teh story and I admit some moments were intense but it didn't really grip too much. Denzel Washington is a good actor and he played the part very well. Eva Mendes was enjoyable ... ...also Denzel's humourus accomplice whose in on the whole thing. He added some much needed comic relief I believe. The guy from the New Adventures of Superman was also in it so any fans of his should take note (if he has any fans). A spin off with just Eva Mendes and that mortuary/coroner funny guy would be great. And also slight plot spoiler but Eva Mendes and Denzel's characters happen to get back together at the end of the film with no more actual ...

Britney Jean Spears is an extremely successful American popstar. She first entered the pop charts in Summer 1998 with her debut hit , Baby One More Time. Since then Britney has sold over 83 million records world wide , been married twice , divorced twice , and has two children with her second husband Kevin Ferderline , yet she is still only twenty six. Britney has had a very successful career , earning her over £50 Million!
TimeOut With Britney is a DVD which focuses on the life of Britney Spears. The DVD was released in the United States in 1998. Britney talks about her childhood , her claim to fame and life as a popstar.
At the time of release Britney was fairly 'new' , so at the time of release it was good to see where Britney had come from and so on , whereas ten years on it's good to look at how Britney's changed and how ...
Advantages: Andy Lau at his greatest, great sountrack. Very rewarding movie. Disadvantages: Didn't have enough handkerchief handy.

Okay firstly before you settle down to watch this film look out those hankies as you are going to need them.
Can you imagine being told you ...
Advantages: Get up, close and personal with Britney Disadvantages: Bit cheesy
This video is quite old now and I brought it when it first came out. What made me buy it was, because I am a big Britney fan and thought this video would teach me more about her and give me a look at the behind the scenes of her life.
The main focal point around this video is Britney herself sitting down and being interviewed. I quite like this particular style of interview, because you don?t see or hear the actual interviewer, so it feels like Britney is sharing her life and future goals with you, the viewer personally. Britney starts right from the beginning first and gives us information on where she was born, brought up and what her 'small American town' was really like to grow up in. This video also shows exclusive photos of Brit as she was growing up, birthday parties, with her friends and family and of course, performing since ...

DVD Description
Carl Franklin and Denzel Washington team-up once more for this hilariously refreshing noir thriller. Washington is Matt Lee Whitlock, police chief of a small Florida town just outside of Miami. In the process of getting a divorce from the woman he still loves, Alex (the sultry Eva Mendes), Chief Whitlock has begun to have an affair with Anne (Sanaa Lathan), wife of abusive ex-football quarterback Chris Harrison (Dean Cain). When he learns that Anne has terminal cancer and doesn't have long to live, Whitlock's stupidity gets the better of him. He steals $450,000 cash that is waiting to be sent to the feds in order to help her out. But when both Anne and Chris's dead bodies are discovered the next morning, all of the signs point to Whitlock. As the clamps begin to tighten and the excuses begin to crumble, Whitlock must use his cunning to track down the money and clear his name once and for all. Gleefully subverting typical film noir conventions, first-time screenwriter David Collard's script is an utter delight. Featuring outstanding supporting turns from Lathan and Mendes, OUT OF TIME is a rollicking ride through the swampy haze of southern Florida.
