Judging by the star ratings given by other people on this site, im left wondering if I somehow didn't quite *get* this movie. Overall I wasn't really impressed at all. Anyway all I can say really are my own thoughts and opinions having seen the movie and thats what I'll cover.
To start with, I felt that there was alot of dialogue in this movie but there wasn't all that much action or particularly dramatic scenes, to keep the viewer interested. I thought that the story moved really quite slowly with not much plot progression.
I felt that this was a bland movie that lost my attention after about the first half hour or so, although George Clooney does alright as the wise talking criminal and Jennifer Lopez as the agent, I felt that there wasn't really enough to the story to keep me interested enough to make me feel particularly connected to, or interested in, the characters and if you don't particularly care, or are interested in, the characters, then really whats the point?
Sure the movie has a decent enough cast list, George and Jennifer do alright in their roles but just because of the actors and actresses present, I don't feel it was enough to really make this a particularly good movie. I know I say that there isn't much action (or certainly not in the mid part of the movie) and im aware that its not marketed specifically as an action movie, so perhaps you think that its not fair of me to state this as a criticism but I still feel that there has to be more to back up such a movie.
If the story had a bit more 'juice' to keep me interested, I quite possibly would have paid more attention and not started wondering how long was left before it would finish (I could have switched it off after an hour or so but I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to see it through to the end lol) but that wasn't the case. It is fair to say that, somewhat in the movies defence, the pace does hot up near the end of the movie as Foley tries to rescue his friend Midge at the end of a robbery gone bad situation but I really did feel like I had lost interest in it by the time this happened.
I'm sure some people will enjoy this, im thinking mainly George Clooney and/or Jennifer Lopez fans and fans of perhaps crime romance movies, if such a genre exists(?), maybe its bad of me to not be so interested in movies that rely alot on long winded dialogue and I like to see more visual elements to keep my interest but I think this isn't always the case, I like some dark comedy movies that don't feature much action but this just didn't seem to catch my interest much at all.
I can't help but feel like this had more potential in it but it wasn't fully realised and that was a disappointment in my eyes.
- DVD -
The official DVD offers dolby digital 5.1 surround sound, subtitles in many different languages apart from English (Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese and Swedish) and its also dubbed into Czech, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
Bonus features include a commentary by the director (Steven Soderbergh), a making of documentary, deleted scenes, production notes, a filmography and of course the official movie trailer.
Thus I would say that the DVD offers quite a sizeable range of bonus features and from that point of view, its not bad value for money (especially as now its quite old, you can pick up second hand copies for only about £3 or so). If you've seen and enjoyed the movie then the DVD is worth considering I suppose.
- Would I Recommend It? -
No, personally I wouldn't recommend this movie. To me, the story was a bit weak and slightly confusing in the middle and I didn't particularly feel a connection to, or interest in, either of the two main characters. There isn't a great deal of action and it just seems too plain, it actually struck me as more of a TV movie than a big Hollywood movie to be honest, though I know its ten years old but all the same, it just didn't interest me enough really.
Without George Clooney or Jennifer Lopez featuring in this movie, I don't know if there would be any reason to watch it. Perhaps I am being a bit unfair and these are only my opinions but personally I wasn't too keen on it and thought that overall it was a pretty weak movie and it just didn't capture my imagination or intrigued or even particularly interested me at all and on that basis, I wouldn't recommend it.
Remember this is only my review and im only stating what I think about it, so if you enjoyed the movie then thats fine but please just rate my review based on how useful you think it is for other people, don't rate me really badly because you disagree, as I say im only stating my personal opinion on it, which everyone is entitled to and I don't think it would be fair to rate me particularly low because of that. Thanks for reading my review and thanks for any and all r/r/c's, I appreciate it! I'll re-rate everyone as soon as possible, though I am fairly busy with Christmas stuff at the moment, I will re-rate everyone in time, I promise!
Also please be aware that this review, as about all my reviews will be, is posted on both Dooyoo and Ciao under my username which is the same name on both sites (IzzyS).

...myself. My opinion on Out of Sight caused me considerable dismay though so I figured it was high time to update it, especially as it received exactly no reads the first time… so here it is.
Out of Sight is a fantastic film that combines all the essential elements of quality filmmaking, razor sharp script, an immeasurably talented director and two stars that are at their dazzling best. The script is courtesy of Elmore Leonard who is proving ... ...that revived the unconventional idea; Out of Sight uses it intelligently and to great effect, filling in the blanks without confusing the audience. The opening scene sees Clooney, who plays bank robber Jack Foley, in a decidedly irritable mood as he removes a tie and throws it dramatically to the floor. He looks up to see the enticing prospect of a SunTrust Bank and after a brief examination proceeds to rob it in a method that can only be described ...

...of them. Watch to find out how it will all end.
Watch as the criminal who is trying to make one last heist, struggles as he is faced with temptation, in the form of a Federal Marshal. Jack Foley has the help of his friend Buddy, who he is planning on making the heist with, as well as a few other people, but Buddy is his only ally for the heist. The movie does not focus all the attention on the robbery, the crimes and the criminals as much as most ... ...struggle to do their job due to their attraction to one another. You do get to see the robbery, and the planning part of the robbery and all the criminals are introduced and you get to see how they all met, but the main focus of the movie I found, was that it focused on Clooney and Lopez's characters to see how they would behave around each other and whether they would be able to do their jobs without letting the other get in the way.
It is from ...

Like all Leonard's stuff, Out of Sight is character-driven, and the characters are pips. Jack Foley (George Clooney) is a twinkling-eyed habitual criminal who virtually talks bank tellers out of their money; we see him at work in a deft, impeccably cut prologue the book didn't bother with but Scott Frank's screenplay is well-advised to include. Nabbed minutes later, Foley is tossed into a Florida pen, out of which he almost immediately breaks by ... ...(Jennifer Lopez) just happens to be standing at the other end (don't worry, it makes perfect sense), and in a meet-cute worthy of Hollywood's golden age, she and Jack soon find themselves spooned in the trunk of his getaway car discussing their favorite movies. Of course, they wouldn't be if Karen had any room to draw her hideout gun. By the time she gets the chance, she has distinctly mixed feelings about putting Jack away.
That delicious indecision ...

There were rumours after shooting that the 2 leads did not get on during the making of this film but you would never have guessed from watching it. The chemistry between the two is electric and both give very good performances. The script (based on an Elmore Leonard novel) is witty and entertaining and the direction by Steven Soderbergh is top notch. The pace is slow boiled but this is perfect for the film and the development ...

Advantages: A storyline good enough for these stars Disadvantages: ?
George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez star in this fine crime/romance flick.
This film definately falls into the DO NOT MISS category. It is extremely good. Of course, the two stars are bound to cause a fair few lads, and a fair few lasses to go just to see the stars on show. Both do not dissapoint, and you should find them to be most pleasing on the eye.
HOwever, dont think that this film is therefore lacking in the story line department. It is not. ... ...is some nice action, and a law or too broken for those who like that. There is certainly am excellent romantic match up. There is loyalty, betrayal...this film has it all.
Let me make this simple. If you have not seen this film before, take my word for it - watch it! If you have seen it before then you know you would enjopy watching it again. ...

Advantages: Good transfer and sound Disadvantages: Dull extra, mediocre film
watching this I just had the feeling that this would have worked so much better if the two leads were actually of a similar age and could stir up more sexual heat. For a better example of how to do this kind of material right you really need to look at the likes of the Clooney/Lopez potboiler Out of Sight.
As for the dvd, well the R2 cover lists this as a special edition. Well if there's something special about it then I'm still looking.
The anamorphic 2.35:1 transfer is very good. It's a clean print with no real signs of grain, blemish etc. Some of the scenes looked a little soft to me but then this could be how they looked originally on theatrical release. Overall a nice job.
The same could be said for the Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. It's very nice and lively throughout. One of the things that really struck me was how good ...
Advantages: Good film Disadvantages: Dull commentaries
links should be working any time now. However for me a really good DVD should have excellent commentaries and fun behind-the-scenes footage: my comparison points are always Ghostbusters and Out of Sight. David O. Russell just lacks the charm of Steven Soderburg, so his commentary is a little tedious.
By all means buy this disk, you could learn a fair bit about filmmaking from it, but expect only to enjoy the film not the dull commentary. ...
Advantages: Russell Crowe. Great battle scenes. Plenty of features. Disadvantages: Joaquin Phoenix. Nothing too out-there or out-of-the-ordinary.
takes, documentaries, etc.
The out-takes are unusually good, and come with a commentary by Ridley Scott. His excuse most of the time is "It would have made it too long". It would be interesting to see a Director's Cut with the scenes inserted, as it would be far more rounded. Some of the out-takes feature some very nice subtle touches.
The 'making of' is also unusually good. Yes, it features the usual arse-kissing "Everyone's so wonderful" banter that usually plagues interviews, but it also gives a sense of the director and star's personalities. There is also the universally amusing sight of perfectly healthy extras sitting on plastic chairs drinking coffee with arrows sticking out of their heads!
'Gladiator' on DVD makes an excellent purchase. A good, solid, repeatedly entertaining movie grounded by a magnificent Russell ...

DVD Description
Based on Elmore Leonard's famous crime novel, OUT OF SIGHT finds director Steven Soderbergh back in Hollywood after a brief return to the independent world with SCHIZOPOLIS and GRAY'S ANATOMY. A funny, hip, and vibrant action-drama, OUT OF SIGHT tells the story of the unlikely relationship that forms between an FBI agent and a career criminal. After Jack Foley (George Clooney) escapes from jail with the help of his partner, Buddy Bragg (Ving Rhames), he takes Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez), a sexy federal agent, hostage. Immediately sparks fly between the two. Eventually they let her go and leave Miami behind, heading directly for Detroit, where they plan to rob a former cellmate of theirs, a wealthy, white-collar criminal (Albert Brooks). When Karen finally locates Foley, a passionate encounter unfurls (edited ingeniously by Anne V. Coates, recalling Nicolas Roeg's classic DON'T LOOK NOW). As Foley zeroes in on his target, Karen must decide which side she's on. Soderbergh's film is a raucous ride through the criminal underworld, featuring spot-on performances by Clooney and Lopez. It's the supporting cast that makes OUT OF SIGHT so unforgettable, however; Rhames, Steve Zahn, Luis Guzman, and especially Don Cheadle deliver hysterical turns that keep the laughs coming as the tension continues to mount.
