Plot: This comic send-up of James Bond films features Derek Flint (James Coburn), a dapper secret agent who, like 007, uses wacky contraptions to get himself out of sticky situations. And, like Bond, he's also habitually surrounded by beauteous babes. In OUR MAN FLINT, a deranged trio of scientists has devised a way to rule the world by manipulating the Earth's climate: they can send icebergs crashing into the Mediterranean or create volcanic eruptions on cue. Flint is hired by Z.O.W.I.E. (The Zonal Organization for World Intelligence and Espionage) to use his powers of deduction, destruction, and, most of all, seduction to save the day. Decades later, the FLINT films would be referenced in yet another spy spoof series, AUSTIN POWERS.

Advantages: Overwhelmingly funny Disadvantages: Can't think of any
...This is the funniest thing Mike Myers has ever done, even as a Brit I couldn’t help but find this amusing even though some people have taken offence at it (how?). From beginning to end it is a spoof of all old fashioned comic book spy programmes such as the Avengers, OurManFlint, the Man from UNCLE and the like but done so much better. However if you feel Myers is funny to start with as Powers, that is nothing to his performance as Dr. Evil.
The funniest thing I found in the film was it dealt with things like what henchmens’ families and friends thought after their death, bringing children into world domination, why doesn’t the villain just shoot him?
Anybody who tries this sort of thing again will have a lot of work to do to beat this. This will leave you quoting the film for years....

Advantages: the extras on the DVD, the couple of stand out scenes Disadvantages: The plot
...Austin Powers – International Man of Mystery is a spoof on all the secret agent films and follows in the footsteps of Casino Royale and OurManFlint. Is it written by and stars Mike Myers ( from Saturday Night Live and Waynes World ) and the lovely Liz Hurley co stars.
The plot follows the usual formula of bad guy threatening the world and the good guy saving it at the last moment. Obviously there is more to it than that but that basically is the plot. The main thrust of the comedy comes from the fact that Powers was cryogenically frozen back in the 1960s and has been revived in the 90s so we can get the fish out of water jokes which have been used in so many films from Crocodile Dundee to Coogans Bluff, the polictically incorrect musings and the 60s catch phrases Groovy Baby indeed.
For me this is a strange film because I...
