Never being able to get a traders license from any council in London, the start of Rodney Come Home begins with Del and Uncle Albert in not so much familiar environment but waiting for the security guards to change shifts in the local shopping centre, so they can open up that famous suitcase and start selling their hooky goods. In the meantime, Rodney is now a high flying executive in the position of Head of the Computer Section working for Cassandra's father and is no longer associated with Del Boy and his dodgy dealings. Del Boy seems to be in a stable relationship with Racquel, who came back from America just to be with him and Rodney is a happily married man to Cassandra or is he?
Things seem to be awkward between Rodney and his ambitious wife, who seems to be committed to one thing and one thing only, the bank. With an upset Rodney, off he toddles to interupt Del's romantic night with his new significant other, Racquel, who have already been rudely interupted by Uncle Albert, and declares that his wife and himself are over for good.
Its classic comedy whenever something like this happens in Only Fools and Horses, whenever there is a serious situation and tact should be used, thats when the hilarious comments start to fly, which would be inappropriate but are just so funny in Only Fools and nothing else is expected other than those remarks.
Back to his old tricks with old buddies Mickey Pearce and Javon, Rodney is reliving his youth again, and spending most of his time in the local nightclub, on the pull for a replacement, drinking himself into oblivion. Del Boy however is still looking out for his brother and does try to talk to sense into him, however Rodney is not listening to his actual words of wisdom. Although he is pretending that he is not hurting by the recent split, he is actually devastated and opens up to Del that he still loves his wife, with Del having a plan to put into action to reconcile his brother with Cassandra.
Del Boy is not impressed as Rodney has gone one step forward and asked one of the local girls out on a date, and wants to stop this from happening. Although Rodney is his brother, he does think a lot about his sister in law and knows that the break is not forever and is just a silly tiff that should just blow over. Del Boy tries to talk to Rodney to talk him into what he is doinis actually the wrong thing, however Rodney still leaves the house. Del thinking its his duty to help both parties out, sticks in his nose more, trying to be helpful, however turns into disastrous consequences.
Although Del's motives to help them both out is genuine and in their best interests because he cares, it is typical Only Fools and Horses style that things go wrong and not according to plan. Things never go according to plan in this fabulous sitcom, always the opposite.
Its not one of the best episodes that has been done and is one of those which is not as memorable as some of the others, however there are quite a few very funny gags in it that are really funny, like trying to make Uncle Albert to do something at the appropriate time without being cued, which made me laugh.
All Only Fools are worth watching and this one displays how people react when they don't get what they want and when peple interfere to try and help. Its all in good faith but its Only Fools at the end of the day.
