ONE MISSED CALL (2008) remake

FILM ONLY REVIEW

Horrors movies used to be a huge favourite of mine but since having children I find myself having less and less time to watch them. I found myself childless and bored one afternoon and happened to like the sound of a horror movie which was being shown on Sky Movies.

I settled down to watch "One Missed Call" and wasn't really sure what to expect. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and was on the edge of my seat the whole time, that’s was when I wasn't peeking out from behind a pillow!

One Missed Call is a remake of the Japanese original called "Chakushin Ari" produced in 2003. It certainly has all the characteristics of a Japanese horror with plenty of jumps and bumps rather than just being a straight up total gore-fest.

The film gets straight to business beginning at the funeral of Shelley, a popular teen and friend of Beth and Leann.

Later that night Leann Cole receives a voice mail from herself made in the future on the date and exact time when she would die, from dead Shelley’s phone. She hears her last words as her gruesome death follows.

On that fated day Leann begins seeing things - disturbing looking people who are there one minute then gone the next, disgusting faces and other creepy and un-nerving occurrences. Then at the precise time right down to the minute, Leann is attacked by a supernatural force on a footbridge above a train station whilst talking to her friend Beth on the phone, and plummets to her death.

Some say its suicide but rumours start flying that there is something more to the death. Rumours intensify when Brian, Leann's boyfriend receives a call made from his dead girlfriends’ phone. Again the call is from the future and is him warning himself of his own death.

As the teens are warned, then one by one killed, Beth is left standing. She hooks up with Detective Jack Andrews who happens to be related to the first victim. Together, can they solve the mystery and dispel the evil before Leann herself receives a call or will she too fall fate to a gruesome death?

I'm afraid you'll have to watch the movie to find out!! What I have said so far may sound horror movie cliché and you may already think you know the ending. However I guarantee you are wrong.

This movie is definitely worth watching as there are so many plot twists and turns that the storyline develops into something really unexpected.

The Japanese have done it again and create a marvellous little film. If you liked the Ring films or RingO, then you will definitely enjoy this.

Beth the main character is played by Shannon Sossamon, an actress who was un-known to me. Her performance was strong and convincing really helping to build depth to the movie and keep the viewer enthralled the whole way through.

Her co-star and co-lead was Detective Jack Andrews played by Edward Burns. He was immense in the movie and held the stage far better than she did, in my opinion.

Together they made a formidable duo fighting against the unseen, researching old cases, following up leads and perhaps solving the unsolvable?

If you are easily scared, then this is not the movie for you, but if you want a real horror to snuggle up close on the couch with your loved one, then this would be highly recommended.
