Introduction =========
The other half was out for the evening so I invited my friend around to have a bit of a girlie chat. The chat soon moved onto DVD's and we ended up watching this one. I know that a few members are going to say what a girlie film but when I bought this DVD I had a real thing for George Clooney, now looking back I can't think why.
The Plot =======
Melanie is a single mother trying to juggle having a son and a full-time job. Jack is a newspaper columnist with a daughter that he has once a fortnight. Jack's Ex-wife tells him to call Melanie because she normally picks up the daughter, forgetful Jack doesn't call her and they both end up missing dropping their kids off for school field trip.
Melanie and Jack both have a busy day ahead of them as neither can afford to take the day off. They agree that they will take turns baby-sitting throughout the day and what turns into a very eventful day for both them and their children.
Characters ========
Melanie Parker - Michelle Pfeiffer Jack Taylor - George Clooney
I am not a fan of Michelle Pfeiffer because I personally do not think she is a very good actress except in Dangerous Minds, she took on the character quite well. However in this film she does not perform well at all and I do not believe that she has a son, as she does not appear to be a Mother in the film at all.
George Clooney plays an irresponsible but fun Father and he is able to carry this off nicely maybe it's his boyish charm. Clooney is able to deliver many of the witty comments to provoke Pfeiffer character into a response, though if you think the acting is going to be superb then you will be disappointed.
Extras =====
Since this film was released back in 1996 this is not many extras to speak off.
Original Theatrical Trailer Scene Access - pretty standard on most DVD's Interactive Menus - again pretty standard
So like I said nothing off much of real interest.
Overview =======
The soundtrack in the film is pretty boring as well as it is the song "One Fine Day" just played in different ways (i.e. slow, fast, different instruments). The film has a typical romantic comedy plot and the only thing that keeps the movie going is the humorous banter between Melanie and Jack.
The film is very predictable but if you are having a girlie night in then it's perfect because it is rather sweet and it's the kind of love all we girls dream about, even if we don't want to admit it. There are few funny parts involving Melanie, Jack and the children which will make you chuckle but won't split your sides.
The film is rated PG because there is some sexual references that may not be suitable for children but otherwise there is no swearing, violence or sexual scenes. The shameful part is that I paid £7.99 for this DVD and it is now sat with the other DVD's gathering dust because I am not really interested in it anymore.
It's a pretty standard romantic comedy and it is fine to watch if you have having a girls night or perhaps a nice cheesy one for teenage girls to enjoy, but if you are looking for a romantic comedy that will keep you on the edge of your seat then this is not the one for you.
Thanks for reading.
