Advantages: A great family film with superb photography Disadvantages: Stereotyped characters and variable performances
-uppance.
Oanh Nguyen puts in an understated performance as His Excellency, the king of the French colony. He comes across as a tragic figure, crushed by the expectations of his overbearing father and his people and also as an unfortunate fool, subject to the greatest pride-killer of all; Murphy?s Law (if anything can go wrong it will). To a certain extent it is a shame that we don?t see more of him because it is a wonderfully subtle performance.
The real stars of the show are Kumal and Sangha, who are composites of several pairs of tigers used to bring the story to life. The director has cleverly juxtaposed footage of natural and learned tiger behaviours to build two distinct characters; one timid, the other brave and fierce. His intelligent use of editing has also enabled him to create humanised patterns of behaviour, so that we can identify ...
Advantages: By the sea! Great atmosphere - an enjoyable time Disadvantages: Few halls of residence
the way home! If you want togo a little further there is Southsea; another line of clubs and pubs, this time along the sea front which can make the walk home rather enjoyable (or the part where you can walk across the beach anyhow)! Then as mentioned above there is Gunwharf Quays, which is very popular with the students who know the town well. And if you want even more Southampton, Brighton and London are very close and only a few train stops away.
The Student union too has a lot going for it, though as the queue are usually horrendous at the bar I tend to stay away from it. Students are well looked after in Portsmouth every night there is some deal on somewhere. Whether is be drinks for 64p, 2 for one or free entry there is always something to look out for!
Accommodation
This is rather important if you don't live close enough to ...
Advantages: Realistic effects that will leave you open mouthed in some places. Disadvantages: A fairly shaky plot line.
I went to see this film thinking it was goingto be a remake of Jaws, but on a much bigger scale, and it does in places smack of Jaws, are at least points out were Speilberg could have taken a risk or two.
It is unfair to compare them on effects as there is 25 years of technical advances gone into movies between them.
THE STORY:- An old naval submarine base is where a group of Scientists are searching for a cure to Alzheimer's disease, part of the research includes enlarging sharks brains to harvest a particular chemical to cure the brain bug. Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows) is the head scientist but is also the daughter of an Alzheimer's sufferer. She tries to justify the proceedure even though people are dying around her in this giant fish tank. Samual L Jackson plays a businessman who sinks his fortune in the project (I ...
