songs and documents of the period. First performed by Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal Stratford East London in 1963 it received the acclaim of London audiences and critics. It won the Grand Prix of the Theatre des Nations festival in Paris that year and has gone on to become a classic of the modern theatre. In 1969 a film version was made which extended the play's popular success. The play is now on the standard reading list of schools and universities around the UK and was revived by the Royal National Theatre in 1998. This new version of the play as edited by Joan Littlewood returns the script to its original version. It includes a new photo section of the original production and an Afterword by Victor Spinetti.

Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: Acting, Writing, Death by annoyance

As per the title- basically by about halfway though I was so bored by the story and so annoyed by the characters that I was rooting for the aliens to shoot the humans!
Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast play spoilt brats who instead of getting on with it spend most of their time onscreen being whinging about how unfair it is, and having domestics. That the only plot is said domestics doesn't help what could have been a great film.
The aliens are beautiful and well done, as are all the special effects and credit needs to be given to the cgi and design team.
The rest of this film though really makes a mockery of this great storyline that was written in 1898, and that iconic radio play that was so convincing that many listeners took it to be news.
I have to wonder why they bothered- was it all just a big in ...
Advantages: Great pacy film with fantastic special effects. Disadvantages: A bit of disappointing ending.
***War Of The Worlds***
I love these big budget ?end of the world? adventure type films and I must be the only person I know who hadn?t seen the original version of H G Wells book, so I didn?t know that much about the movie and most importantly, had no idea of the ending. I watched it quite a long time ago, when it first aired on Sky and watched it again this week. I think it would have been a fantastic film to watch on the big screen.
***What?s it all about?***
Of course this is the perfect type of film for Tom Cruise (Ray Ferrier) to star in and I have to be honest, I prefer his performances in this type of film, rather than his more serious roles (apart from Rainman). It is directed by Steven Spielberg and lasts 116 minutes. The film is rated certificate 12.

Advantages: three amazing movies Disadvantages: not so great extras
specially made for the collector?sedition detailing how the films were made. The booklet comes complete with pictures but in all honesty takes about ten minutes to flick through. Overall I cannot recommend the Die Hard Trilogy enough. Presented in 5.1 Dolby surround sound it sounds amazing, and all three of them look fantastic too! All three are genuinely exciting, keeping you on the edge of your seat right until the last moment. All in all these are an absolute classic and seriously worth the money! Well done 20th Century Fox for producing such a good box set. ...

DVD Description
Richard Attenborough's directorial debut OH! WHAT A LOVELY WAR is a riotous, thought-provoking satire on the follies of war, based on the stage musical of the same name. Set during World War I, the story revolves around the Smith family, whose five sons enlist in the army only to end up as cannon fodder. Told through the words and music of soldiers' marching songs, the harsh reality of war is offset by a distinctly irreverent British humour. And who said war had to be depressing?
