that began withTaxi Driverand concluded withLight Sleeper--each dealing with a lonely man trying to deal with both his own dizzily spinning moral compass and the hypocrisy of the society that's trying to tell him what to do. Richard Gere plays a high-priced prostitute, an immaculately dressed stud for hire who services the bored women of Beverly Hills without ever allowing himself to be touched emotionally. His affair with a politician's wife (Lauren Hutton) changes that, at a point when he is being framed for a murder he didn't commit. Even as he tries to elude the law, he allows himself to become enmeshed with her in unexpected ways. Too cool and distant for some viewers, the film has a distinctive look and deliberate pacing--and about two endings too many. But it will keep you watching in spite of yourself. --Marshall FineGhostDemi Moore and Patrick Swayze are the passionate lovers whose romance is undone when the latter is murdered during a bungled hit arranged by a rival. The clever concept by screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin (director ofMy Life) extends outward into comedy (Swayze's character communicates through a sassy medium played by Whoopi Goldberg, who won an Oscar for this role), horror (the afterlife is populated by hell-bound demons and the like), and romantic complications (a handsome suitor, played by Tony Goldwyn, comes on to Moore while Swayze's spirit is still hanging around). Directed by Jerry Zucker, previously best known for codirectingAirplane!and similar broad comedies,Ghostis a careful balancing act of strong commercial elements, but at heart it is a timeless Hollywood tearjerker that easily gets under one's skin. --Tom KeoghAn Officer And A GentlemanRichard Gere plays an enrollee at a Naval officers candidate school, and Debra Winger is the woman who wants him. That's pretty much it, story-wise, in this romantic drama, which is more effective in a moment-to-moment, scene-by-scene way, where the two stars and Oscar-winner Louis Gossett Jr.--as Gere's tough-as-nails drill instructor--are fun to watch. Sexy, syrupy, with occasional pitches of high drama (Gere having a near-breakdown during training is pretty strong),An Officer and a Gentlemanproves to be a no-brainer date movie. --Tom Keogh

Advantages: hilarious Disadvantages: more sea snails needed
...Deuce Bigalow (Rob Schneider, Saturday Night Live) is an unhappy fish-tank cleaner who after agreeing to look after the fish of a high-priced male prostitute ends up a gigolo himself, couched along the way by his “man-pimp” (Eddie Griffin). However, everything goes haywire when he falls in love with a client (Arija Bareikis) and gets chased by a psychopathic policeman (William Forsythe). However, this description fails to fully describe this film. The jokes in this film are the type that anyone will find funny, no matter who they are, things such as farting, Tourette's syndrome and wet T-shirts.
This film follows in the footsteps of recent madcap American comedies such as Something About Mary and The Waterboy, however, cannot be considered a poor relation though it didn’t do as well in the box-office. Personally...

Advantages: Great Love Story, Funny Comedy, Good Character Development Disadvantages: Not many people will give it a chance
...is forced to give it a go once he destroys the real Gigolo's very expensive hand made fish tank.
Deuce gets a pimp, and along the way meets all sorts of strange women. He even manages to fall in love with one of them, lose her, then steal her back in the happy ending.
As a side theme in this movie is a crazy police man afraid his wife is cheating on him. He is out to crush Deuce and his Pimp, the Police Officer is really in the film to show us what could happen, in the worst case, if you neglect your wife to long.
Deuce Bigalo is a great story, with many scenes done as parody of the film, The Matrix.
Deuce Bigalo is an enjoyable film, filled with many laughs, but isn't for everyone. You need a sense of humor. It is a love story and a comedy all in one....

Advantages: Extremely encouraging for disillusioned amateur writers (You will be considered a genius by comparison) Disadvantages: Don't watch this if you aren't an insomniac . . .
...I have never before been mentally scarred by a bad movie, but this did it.
Since I consider myself a B-movie (and plain BAD movie) aficionado I can honestly say this: A.I. was NOT the worst film I have ever seen, but considering the ONLY movies that were worse are movies like - "Plan 9 From Outer Space", "Return of the Bog Monster", All films featuring Tom Cruise, and other such torturous movies like "Hannibal" and "Mission to Mars" . . . that is not saying much about A.I. (In case Hannibal fans are reading this - let there be no doubt that this is NOT meant to be a compliment - A.I. is the one of the WORST CRAP MOVIES EVER MADE!!!!).
Having said that:
I saw this in the movie theater but it took a long time to recuperate and allow for the shock and trauma to wear off . . .
So, I'm sitting in the theater (and the theater is PACKED...
