Ocean's Twelve is the sequel to the hit crime/comedy "Ocean's Eleven", which reprises the all star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Matt Damon.
Three years has passed since Ocean (Clooney) and his gang had stole $160 million from Terry Benedict's (Garcia) casinos, as well as his lover and now Oceans wife (for the second time) Tess (Roberts). Thinking each of them are in the clear, they all live relatively quiet lives - focusing on new projects using the share of the money stolen. However Lady Luck isn't smiling on the eleven as Benedict has tracked them down and wants one thing: his $160 million plus interest - a total of $198 million. Unfortunately for Ocean, Rusty (Pitt) and the rest, they only have 14 days to get the money and the worst of it is after frivilous spending, they need close to $100 million and they can't "work" in the US. How do the gang get the money: performing small jobs around Europe. How hard can it be? Well if you have a rival competing for the same jobs then not very. This is the problem the group have as an unknown thief called "The Night Fox" has marked the same jobs, believing he is the greatest thief in the World, not Ocean and Co. As he and Ocean meet, they decide a competition to see how is the greatest thief of all time: they go for the same mark - a precious Faberge Egg on display in one of Italys biggest art galleries. If Ocean wins the Night Fox will pay off the debt for them as respect for a great robber. Also hot on Oceans trail is a crime detective from Interpol (Zeta-Jones) who has been tracking Oceans jobs from the Bellagio heist to his (and the Night Fox's) work in Europe. But all is not what it seems as she was in a relationship with Rusty. Will Ocean outsmart the Night Fox? Does Benedict get his money on time? Do the group get caught by the Interpol Detective? All is revealed in the film.
Like the first movie, the plot is brilliant, though it does seem too much of a cliche that some random bloke will solve all the main characters problems by beating him in a competition after the gang are following small jobs that won't pay off the debt in time. Also like the first movie, it does have an interesting twist at the end though I believe it takes more than one watch to fully understand what has happened.
The cast is brilliant and haven't changed at all from the first, the inclusion of Catherine Zeta Jones is a good choice for her character as a detective for Interpol. She brings that serious part to her character but, like the rest of them, can add a bit of comedy to the film as well.
On the DVD, you only get the trailers to the film, which is a bit of a let down for those wanting out-takes, deleted scenes etc. However I still say that I don't know many people who watch them anyway, but it is nice to get a bit extra for the money you're paying for the DVD.
Much like the first movie, I loved this film. Its got an interesting story to keep you watching (and chuckling at the light-hearted bits) and has an excellent cast. However I found the ending twist a bit hard to understand and did take me a few watches to get it. Therefore I feel that those who do not give their full attention may not understand it at all However I think the first movie is the better out of the two released on DVD and should be watched first. If you can get the two DVDs in a box set or seperately then I suggest you do so as there will be a resurgence in sales thanks to the release of Oceans Thirteen in cinemas.
