I'm going to have a crack at reviewing this DVD. I'm not a particularly avid film watcher so I will just give you my thoughts and feelings rather than an in depth technical review. All of your comments, good or bad, will be gratefully received!
Having thoroughly enjoyed Oceans Eleven I thought I would treat my hubby and I to the sequel, to watch whilst our girls were away on Sea Scouts camp. So we sat down after a nice Chinese takeaway and popped the disc in the player.
The storyline follows on from the first film with the basic plot being that the guy Danny Oceans' gang fleeced in 'Eleven' wants his money back, and soon! As they have already spent their share of the first scam they have to come up with a way of raising $160 million. I shan't give away any more of the plot - I don't think there is much more anyway, so here are my thoughts.
This film has a star studded cast including
George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Matt Damon amongst others. Also it boasts a number of guest stars such as Bruce Willis, Eddie Izzard (who is actually rather good) and Robbie Coltrane. These guest stars were all a bright part of the film, however the producers would have been better served using this extra appearance money on paying for a better script and screenplay. So it should be pretty good, but somehow it seems to miss the spot entirely. The cast seem as though they are a friendly enough bunch but there just isn't any spark going on between them at all. If you haven't seen the first film then I suggest you do, otherwise it could take you a while to get the plot - is there one in this film?
I found a lot of the dialogue very hard to hear - always accompanied by a background soundtrack that drowned out what the mumbling actors were saying. Many punch lines and smart comments were entirely lost to my ears and minutes would go by without actually being able to hear a complete sentence.
The cast don't appear to have had to stretch themselves or make much effort at all to play their parts, but I thought Julia Roberts sends herself up very well (I won't spoil what she does, but I thought it a bright part of the film). Catherine Zeta-Jones adds a touch of glamour but I don't think her role required much effort from her either!
I have no idea whether this DVD has any special features as I really couldn't be bothered to find out after watching 120 minutes of dross. This is far too long a film and an hour and a half would have been plenty, I was very bored long before the end and my hubby was fast asleep. On a plus note at least it is only a 12 certificate and I would let my girls watch it as it isn't violent and contains no sexual content, only containing a little bad language - however, I don't think they would enjoy it. There is far too much jolting camera action and flicking from one shot to another so fast it made me feel dizzy, and made the film very hard to follow. The director would have been better making this a 15 or 18 and putting some actual action into the film.
This could have been a brilliant sequel, the plot being not actually too bad. However, an awful script, bad screenplay and actors being paid far too much for doing too little make this a real donkey.
I just hope they don't make a 13 - if they do I suppose I'll have to watch it just to see if it's as bad as this one!
If you really want a copy then you can pick one up at Amazon for £11.99 (ouch!) and their Marketplace for £6.50, which is where my copy is headed! In my opinion if you would really like to watch it then borrow it from a mate - at least then you can give it back and it hasn't cost you anything.
Well this copy didn't head to the Marketplace afterall as my daughters are now old enough to see this and enjoyed Oceans 11, however they didn't enjoy this as much as the first even though they found the first one hard to follow at times. The only thing I can add is that I hope Oceans 13 is better than Oceans 12 - I shan't be rushing to the cinema to find out though, I'll be picking up the DVD when I can be bothered sometime.

I agree with Jan on this film. I saw Oceans 11 and thought what a brilliant film and when this Oceans 12 came out, i couldn't wait to watch it. Well what a disappointment, so much so i fell asleep during it. No more to say really.

Great film review...though i hate to tell you that an OCEAN'S THIRTEEN is coming out in a month, minus Julia Roberts and plus Ellen Barkin....these sequels are so unnecessary, dont you think? Chris x
