Having pulled off the job in Vegas Ocean's 11 vanished into retirement, all taking a separate direction and enjoying their money. The day they all dreaded has arrived as Vegas casino boss, Terry Benedict turns up demanding his money back with interest within 2 weeks. As they are now too hot to work in Vegas they head to Europe to try and get as much cash as they can, as quickly as they can. This leads them into a head to head competition with a European master thief Francois Toulour who is determined to proof himself to be a better thief than Danny Ocean and his team.
With the success of the previous film it was important for the makers to stick to similar principles whilst making the sequel. The potential for this film to be an almighty flop was clear for all to see and it worried me when I first watched it. It's fair to say that while Ocean's Twelve isn't as good as Ocean's Eleven or even Thirteen, it is still a good movie and provides just over 2 hours of entertainment that holds your attention as you try and keep track of what's already happened and what might be about to happen.
As well as the return of the original cast, director Steven Soderbergh returns to keep the original team together. He is obviously a well established director and producer and his experience and ability were key to making this film work. He follows on from the original film using certain camera angles to sway the story and try and mislead the viewer and this works remarkably well. He also uses some rather clever special effects including the museums alarm system and the fake egg to really give it some credence and aid the look of the film.
The only downside with this film compared to the other two was the script. It just didn't seem to have the same effect as the other 2 films in the series, but that was just a very minor complaint. Despite this I still found myself immersed in the movie and can watch it over and over again. It's a decent movie and while it's not quite as good as the other two movies the plot is still reasonable and works within the boundaries of the film.
Of course like the previous Ocean's film the cast are exemplary. It's pretty much a whose who of actors in Hollywood and still features the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon and Andy Garcia all returning with the expected flare in their already established roles. The whole returning cast do an admirable job and recreate the friendship and chemistry between the group that was clearly forged in the first movie.
In addition to the original cast there are new characters introduced with suitable effect. The most impressive of these has to be Catherine Zeta-Jones as Isabel, Brad Pitt's characters ex girlfriend. She works for the European police service. The chemistry between Pitt and her is electrifying and adds a different dimension to the story. Likewise there are equally impressive performances from Eddie Izzard and Vincent Cassel as they add their own little bits to the series as the new gadget guy and Francois Toulour respectively.
Overall this is a reasonable movie. If you're expecting a film as good as Ocean's Eleven I'm afraid you'll be disappointed but it is a reasonable sequel. It keeps to the same principles as the original movie and that is what really works in its favour. With the same cast returning and some decent new characters it does work and creates 125 minutes of enjoyable, thought provoking movie. As sequel's go it works and while the script may not be quite as good, the movie fits nicely into the series of films and that for fans of the first movie should be the most important aspect.
Advantages: European scenes, George, Brad Disadvantages: None
Ocean's Twelve Danny and his gang are back and this time the heist is bigger than ever. Ocean's Twelve follows on from the Ocean's Elven movie. Ocean's Twelve was released in 2004 and follows the same format as the other movie. It's a heist caper with lots of comedy thrown in. The ensemble cast is full of celebrity and I think they work well together. Like I said Ocean's Twelve follows on from Ocean's Eleven. Danny Ocean and his guys previously were ... ...Las Vegas. However, the owner of the casino's, Terry Benedict played by Andy Garcia, knows it's them and he wants his money back. He manages to get to each one of them and threaten them with paying the money back within two weeks, including interest!! Well, what do you do when you have just stolen $160 million dollars, you spend it of course, lavishly and now the gang are short by about half. So, what do you do when you need to pay back some money ...

Advantages: Has about two fun moments.... Disadvantages: Otherwise very boring and full of redundant "style" that dosent work.
The reason Steven Soderberg's remake of OCEANS ELEVEN was enjoyed by so many was simple, it was fun and didn't take itself seriously. It was fast paced and the final heist was one of the best you've seen on film. With its sequel however Soderberg seems to have taken everything that made his original good and decided to not concentrate on any of it and to put no finer point on it OCEANS TWELVE is a failed mess in almost every respect.
The film takes ... ...gang of crooks are all living the high life until Terry Benedict, the casino owner they ripped off catches up with them and demands his money in 14 days or will have them all killed. The film then moves to Amsterdam where they have to figure out how to rip enough people off to get the money.. And that's about it really, but the thin plot is stretched even thinner over the films run time and there is such a painful lack of characterisation that you ...

Advantages: great cast, good story, decent soundtrack, not bad sequel, Disadvantages: lack of DVD extras, bit of a confusing ending,
Ocean's Twelve is the sequel to the hit crime/comedy "Ocean's Eleven", which reprises the all star cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Matt Damon.
Three years has passed since Ocean (Clooney) and his gang had stole $160 million from Terry Benedict's (Garcia) casinos, as well as his lover and now Oceans wife (for the second time) Tess (Roberts). Thinking each of them are in the clear, they ... ...using the share of the money stolen. However Lady Luck isn't smiling on the eleven as Benedict has tracked them down and wants one thing: his $160 million plus interest - a total of $198 million.
Unfortunately for Ocean, Rusty (Pitt) and the rest, they only have 14 days to get the money and the worst of it is after frivilous spending, they need close to $100 million and they can't "work" in the US.
How do the gang get the money: performing small ...

Advantages: Urrrmm. Eddie Izzard is great! Disadvantages: Everything apart from Eddie Izzard
I'm going to have a crack at reviewing this DVD. I'm not a particularly avid film watcher so I will just give you my thoughts and feelings rather than an in depth technical review. All of your comments, good or bad, will be gratefully received!
Having thoroughly enjoyed Oceans Eleven I thought I would treat my hubby and I to the sequel, to watch whilst our girls were away on Sea Scouts camp. So we sat down after a nice Chinese takeaway and popped ... ...from the first film with the basic plot being that the guy Danny Oceans' gang fleeced in 'Eleven' wants his money back, and soon! As they have already spent their share of the first scam they have to come up with a way of raising $160 million. I shan't give away any more of the plot - I don't think there is much more anyway, so here are my thoughts.
This film has a star studded cast including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta-Jones, ...

Advantages: There's a great cast Disadvantages: The great cast is barely used
Ocean's Eleven was a rarity in the film world, a remake that was by far superior to the original. This isn't a criticism of the original, I like it, but without the Rat Pack it simply would not have been a hit. Sure, the remake had its fair share of stars, but the much cleverer plot would have seen it be a hit even in less capable hands.
It's an established fact that with a few rare exceptions (Godfather Part II, Empire Strikes Back) sequels never ... ...the man now involved with Ocean's ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts).
The robbery goes to plan, and each of the crew walks away with their share of 160 million dollars.
Ocean's Twelve picks up three years later. Benedict's insurance company has picked up the cost of the robbery, but he's taking the theft somewhat personally. Having tracked down the members of the team he demands his money back - with interest…that's 190 million.
Fairly unsurprisingly ...

Advantages: Good cast; funny in places Disadvantages: Confusing plot at the beginning of the film
...This PG film is called "Ocean's 11" on the front cover of the DVD/video (which is the US title) and it was made in 1960.
The basic plot in this crime caper is that 11 friends who were in World War 2 get back together to plan the robberies of five Las Vegas casinos on New Year's Eve. They are asked to do it by a crime boss who wants to hire people who aren't known villains.
They plan to cut the power supply to the casinos and then steal millions of dollars from them. Can they pull off this major crime with the same precision they carried out their army tasks? The film's main stars are Frank Sinatra as Danny Ocean, Dean Martin as Sam, Peter Lawford as Jimmy. Sammy Davis Jr as Josh and Angie Dickinson as Danny's fed up wife.
The film is largely a product of its time - sexist in places and even hints of racism in the film...

Advantages: Fabulous cast, funny, interesting plot Disadvantages: Not really original and the sequel was a bit of a let down
...No, it's not a film set on a boat like I may have thought at one point!!!
Ocean's eleven was a fantastic film containing every element a good film should. Eye candy for the ladies, eye candy for the gents, romance, comedy, quit wit, bad V good and a consistent plot. George Clooney plays bad boy Danny who plans to enter the world's most secure vault in order to steal millions from Casino owning Terry Bennedict who stole Danny's wife. He creates a gang including a retired thief, poker expert/card dealer, pickpocket, flexible Chinese acrobat, expert in explosives and more!
This film includes big names including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Elliot Gould, Carl Reiner, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts...the list goes on!
I found ocean's twelve a bit of a disappointment after how fantastic ocean's eleven was. The same great cast but I...

Advantages: Two for one Disadvantages: Originally quite expensive
...Oceans 11 and 12 are both excellent remakes of classic flims. Both films are about classic heists with George Clooney and Brad Pitt as the 'Good' Crooks and Andy Garcia as the 'Bad' Crook. Catherine Zeta Jones and Julia Roberts are great and their characters develop across the films. The set piece in Oceans 12 where Julia Roberts plays her character pretending to be Julia Roberts is brilliant.
Whilst I thought they were great individually at the cinema I couldn't justify buying the individual films but the two disc set was great.
Orignially quite expensive you can now get it quite cheaply so I'd reccommend adding it to your DVD collection for when theres nothing on TV and you'd like an entertaining pair of films to watch...

Back in slick style, OCEAN'S TWELVE reintroduces Ocean (George Clooney) and his perfectly trained team of con men, who are determined to take on Europe. Dividing forces to hit Paris, Amsterdam, and Rome, the heist-meisters move beyond casinos to tackle new objectives, one of which involves stealing a famous painting. With OCEAN'S TWELVE, Steven Soderbergh re-teams with his high profile friends for another glamorous romp through the high-stakes underworld. Three years after Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his crew robbed Las Vegas casino tycoon Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) of one hundred sixty million dollars, Benedict has finally tracked them down. He gives them a two-week ultimatum to come up with the money or suffer the consequences. Knowing that the odds are stacked against them, the gang nonetheless heads to Amsterdam for a big heist. But what no one realizes is that ultra-smooth Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt) has ulterior motives for leading the gang to Amsterdam. Turns out his former flame, Isabel Lahiri (Catherine Zeta-Jones), is living and working there tracking criminals such as Ocean and French master Francois Toulour (Vincent Cassel), better known as 'The Night Fox' Threatened by the universally admired eleven, Toulour challenges Ocean to a dangerous museum heist that will either make or break the gang once and for all. It's up to Tess Ocean (Julia Roberts) to fly into town and bail the boys out of trouble. Every frame of OCEAN'S TWELVE is bursting with gleeful energy, as is the film's soundtrack, provided by acclaimed musician David Holmes.
