charm and suave, sophisticated swagger that underpinned the first in what's become a trilogy of capers. And for those who endured the self-indulgent mess that was Ocean's Twelve, this latest and final entry in the franchise is a very welcome treat, proving very much that lessons were learnt. Dropping Catherine Zeta Jones and Julia Roberts from the cast list, but signing up the smaller matter of Al Pacino instead, the rest of the players remain broadly intact. So it's George Clooney's Danny Ocean who leads the team of cons, supported by Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle and Carl Reiner. And it's the easy chemistry between these and the rest of the team that underpin what makes Ocean's 13 such an enjoyable ride. The plot pits Ocean and his gang against Al Pacino's ruthless casino boss, and while the script perhaps lacks the cleverness and dense plotting that worked so well in the first adventure, it still leaves plenty of room for outright entertainment. The end result is an easy-to-enjoy caper, that's not the equal of Ocean's Eleven, yet far superior to Ocean's Twelve. And considering it was released in the midst of a summer where threequels generally weren't too well received, Ocean's Thirteen arrives in fine shape, and rounds off the trilogy with panache. --Jon Foster

Advantages: Entertaining, good script, holds your interest Disadvantages: as good as it is, should be the last outing for Ocean and his team
...a big fan of the Ocean's movies since the release of Ocean's 11 and while 12 wasn't quite up to the same standard as the first, this third film was on my must see list. Of course now I've probably watched it around a dozen times and I can honestly say that if it is the last in the series it is a good one to finish it on. I've felt the Ocean's films have quite a fresh approach to the heist movie genre and like the first film the return to Las Vegas ... ...as another constant to the Ocean's films. Unlike a lot of sequels this film has not only kept the same cast but the same director and that really helps with the continuity. The way the film is shot is very similar in style to the previous 2 movies and this is one of the unique elements that really makes the Ocean's films stand out. He uses certain camera angles and views to create the story he wants you to see at the time and it's for this reason ...

Advantages: It's a fun romp. Disadvantages: The characterisation and narrative lack depth.
Danny Ocean and his band of super-slick conmen are back! This time they're out for revenge on slimy casino owner Willie Banks. Not only has he cheated Danny's mentor Reuben out of lots of money, but he also caused him a near-fatal heart attack. So Danny and the boys hatch a plan to hit Banks where it hurts; in the wallet. They decide to hit his casino on opening night, making sure he loses money hand over fist while all the gamblers win…
How much ... ...on two things; how much you liked the pervious films in the series and whether you think George Clooney and his chums are far too smug for their own good. Personally I enjoyed the first movie, slick and forgettable as it was but was irked by the self-satisfaction of the second. Thankfully director Steven Soderbergh has reined in Clooney and Co. somewhat, so the film feels more like a crime caper than a boys' holiday in Europe. This film adheres more ...

Advantages: great Disadvantages: not as good as 11
Liking the other films in this trilogy I had to watch this one just to say that I have seen it and it was not as good as the first two but then I think that it had so much hype behind the first two that the third just got carried away, but I think that happens with most sequels.
Unfortunately in this third installment they dropped Catherine Zeta Jones and Julia Roberts, but back to our screen was Danny Ocean played by George Clooney supported by ... ...Reiner.
The third installment once again involves Danny Ocean and his gang to pull off another heist, Reuben ends up in hospital on deaths door all he wants is to get back the glory on the Vegas strip, but this plans have been scuppered by Willie Bank played by Al Pacino, who Reuben went into business to build the biggest and flashiest casino. Unfortunately Willie took Reuben for all he was worth and now Danny Ocean will not stop until Willie's ...

Advantages: Better than Oceans 12 Disadvantages: Still not as good as Oceans 11
The summary of the plot can be found elsewhere and a good example is the previous review. So I will concentrate on the other aspects of the DVD, is it watchable? yes definately. Is it better than Oceans 12 ... comepletely! The series can under a lot of scrutiny after the poor effort of Oceans 12, and this is a definate improvement. While it lacks the originality of Oceans 11, it is a lot more easy to follow than Oceans 12, and is a better script and ...

Advantages: good plot Disadvantages: the ongoing ocean's 11,12 and 13 is getting repetitive
...for a great comeback on ocean's thirteen, although it may lack the essence and originality of ocean's 11 it has beaten ocean's twelve by a long shot. The carnage that Willie Banks brings to Rouben causes danny to bring back the team and get after the big time of Las Vegas, "The Bank". When Willie Banks thinks that noone can beat him and is ready to receive his next 5 diamond award, a plot is hatching to take his money from beneath his nose. An action ...

Advantages: Fun movie, Great acting, Great comedy Disadvantages: Picture looks grainy in dark lighting, Lack of extras
...OceansThirteen is a very fun movie. This is more of a sequal then the previous movie Ocean Twelve.

However Ruben has been doublecrossed as Bank as put everythink on his name and left Ruben with nothing. Ruben then had a heart attack from the shock. Advantages: The greatest cast and the best director currently working Disadvantages: It's utterly empty
...There's a famous story that Raymond Chandler once returned a corrected manuscript to the editor who had dared to question his judgement. "When I split an infinitive," he wrote, "I split it so it damn well stays split." Anyone who has read Chandler's The Long Goodbye understands that it doesn't have to make sense to be good writing.
To suggest something has style over substance has always seemed like such a damning dismissal, but Steven Soderbergh and his cast for the three Ocean movies have made this a glorious virtue. If you want a cohesive plot with character arcs and a recognisable 'journey' then you may as well turn round now. Ocean's Thirteen, the second sequel to a remake, is a mish mash of sketches, cameos and Vegas cool held together by the thinnest and most preposterous of plots.
I think that character names in this movie...

The fact that it's pretty much an all male film is the reason it's so much better than the second one. In the first one, despite the appearance of Julia Roberts it was pretty much a male film and that's what made it so...

Review: The cons and gambits come at you thick and fast, and Clooney and his compatriots guide them all with such insular verbal code that the movie is beyond sly--it's a blizzard of blissed-out chicanery (Entertainment Weekly, 14/08/2007)
The third time really is a charm... OCEAN'S THIRTEEN is also a gas; it's lighter than air, prettier than life, a romp, a goof and an attentively oiled machine (New York Times, 14/08/2007)
OCEAN'S THIRTEEN is as frothy and smooth as a chilled margarita on a hot Vegas night... It's breezy, clever fun and ridiculously easy on the eyes (USA Today, 14/08/2007)
DVD Description
The third installment of Steven Soderbergh's slick, star-studded heist series just might be the best, as Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and company pull off another elaborate caper, this time in the name of revenge. Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould), one of Ocean's original eleven, lies nearly comatose after a myocardial infarction brought on by shock. His dreams of regaining his former glory on the Vegas strip have been dashed by the dastardly Willie Bank (Al Pacino), with whom Reuben foolishly went into business to build the biggest and flashiest casino the the world has ever seen. Bank took Reuben for all he was worth, and now, the famously loyal thirteen won't rest until Bank has been brought down. They execute this noble cause through complex, daring, and brilliant machinations that make the most of everyone's talents, including Yen's (Shaobo Qin) acrobatics, Linus's (Matt Damon) acting abilities, and Basher's (Don Cheadle) heavy machinery. Virgil and Turk Malloy (Casey Affleck and Scott Caan) get a few hilarious moments as they brew up a revolution in a Mexican plastics plant, while Rusty (Brad Pitt) and Danny coolly preside over the action like omniscient, infallible deities, always about three steps ahead of the game. The villain's downfall is utterly satisfying due to the pure capitalist evil channelled by Pacino, while Ellen Barkin vamps it up as Bank's "cougar" of an assistant. The camaraderie of the thirteen lends heart to these cool criminals, best captured by the sappy letters Basher sends Reuben, which ultimately bring him back to life. Vegas is effectively captured through seamless editing and beautiful photography, with the trappings of uber-wealth making the fantasy even more fantastical.
