Ocean's Eleven
Brad Pitt, George Clooney and a whole host of other good looking guys planning the crime heist of the century, what more could you want from a movie! Ocean's Eleven is actually a 2001 remake of the 1960 Rat Pack caper film of the same name. I've never seen the original but I would like to so I can compare the two.
What's the ocean got to do with it? Is it set by the beach? No, Danny Ocean is the name of the game leader who collects together all his friends to rob three casinos in Las Vegas. And why eleven, why there are eleven people who carry out the crime. Danny has the perfect friends in order to carry out this job, one is a fixer, another a blackjack dealer, another a pickpocket, all worthy occupations to help you scam casinos out of $150 million!! Danny is played brilliantly by the gorgeous George Clooney. He is so laid back and suave, he can get anyone to agree to do anything. He teams up with old friend Rusty to perfect the plan. Rusty is played by another one of my favourites Brad Pitt and I love the combination of the two of them together. They are friends in real life too and you can tell that they work well together and enjoy being in each others company in this film.
We have to remember that they are the baddies in this film, they are the ones who are going to rob from the casino but for some reason we want them to succeed. Why is this, is it because they are cute, is it because the casino manager has been portrayed as not a very nice guy,who knows? I think part of it is that most of the movie is focused on the eleven men and we learn about their situations and learn to like them and sympathise with them. The casino owner, Terry Benedict is played by Andy Garcia and he really does portray a mafia style boss from the old days who you could not trust but had to be very aware of. The ante is upped as far as Danny is concerned because Terry is now dating his ex-wife Tess played by Julia Roberts. I actually really enjoyed the plot that the gang came up with. At times it seemed so outrageous but they seemed to have a response to each situation they might find themselves in. It was well calculated and
The movie is set in one of my favourite places in the world, Las Vegas. The film really brings into play the glamour and the thought that anything is possible in this wonderful city. The film really makes Las Vegas like another character in the film which I really like. There are some great shots of the town and if anyone has see the fountain displays outside the Bellagio then they will definitely appreciate the last scene in the film with Danny and Rusty.
The DVD has actually got quite a lot of special features. They include feature length commentaries, behind the scenes documentaries and theatrical trailers. The film lasts for 117 minutes and is rated 13.
