Advantages: Amusing and diverting Disadvantages: But quite strange really, and some parts are pretty gory
...and quite disturbing places.
Nurse Betty is the story of a downtrodden housewife and waitress, Betty Sizemore (excellently portrayed by Renee Zellweger), who is stuck in a dead-end marriage to a philandering and misogynistic car dealer, Del. Not only does he sleep around – the first sight the viewer has of him is as he is getting down to business with his secretary – but he also sports a haircut that is just about to cross that deadly ... ...to condemn him.
The other staff at the diner where Betty works have clubbed together to get her money to take the nursing course that she gave up to marry her no-hoper of a husband. But not only does Del not care that he has done nothing for his wife’s birthday, he actually goes out on a business deal on the very same evening. Betty doesn’t really mind though, as she is obsessed with ‘A Reason to Love’, a soap opera set in ...

Advantages: Renee Zellwegger, Morgan Freeman Disadvantages: violent scene, very unsettling
Nurse Betty is about a sweet natured young woman, Betty Sizemore, (Renee Zellweger). Betty works as a waitress, stuck in small town Kansas, with a jerk of a husband (Arron Eckhart). This is different from a typical Neil La Bute film. There is less misogyny ...

Advantages: Rock and Freedman combine well, a funny film Disadvantages: Betty's husband was bumped off too soon, a slightly bitter comedy
Renee Zwellwenger plays Betty, a small-town waitress with an unloving sleazebag of a husband who has constant affairs and is generally not a very nice piece of work. All she has to live for is to watch "A Reason to Love", a soap set in a hospital in LA with its dishy lead, a tough but tender doctor. The thing that she would like most in the world would be to meet him, woo him and marry him and live happily ever after.
One day, her life is turned ... ...shady drug deals with two hitmen, a father and son team played by Morgan Freedman and Chris Rock. They take exception to him and kill him in his home. Betty sees this cowering behind the door. She decides to live out her dream, she goes to the car lot where her husband worked and takes the first car she sees. Unfortunately there is a large stash of cocaine inside which the hitmen want. However, they have no idea where she went.
Betty arrives in ...

DVD Description
When small-town waitress Betty Sizemore (Renee Zellweger) accidentally witnesses the grisly murder of her underhanded car-dealing husband (Aaron Eckhart), she copes with the trauma by retreating into a dreamlike state. Not only is Betty completely in denial about her husband's death, but she now believes she is the onetime love of her favorite soap opera character, Dr. David Ravell (Greg Kinnear). Leaving her Kansas home in one of her husband's used cars to "reunite" with the doctor, Betty unwittingly carries drugs that the killers (Morgan Freeman and Chris Rock) are after. As Betty arrives in Los Angeles to seek out the fictional Dr. Ravell, the hit men aren't far behind. Director Neil LaBute's third feature combines elements of thrillers, romance flicks, and road movies into a unique film. Unlike the emotional brutality present in his previous films (IN THE COMPANY OF MEN and YOUR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS), the violence in NURSE BETTY is physical and brief, quickly giving way to a more lighthearted comedic tone. As the title character, Zellweger is sweet, determined, and utterly charming, while Freeman and Rock are perfectly suited for their offbeat hit-men roles. With its clever script and sure-handed direction, NURSE BETTY makes for a winning oddball comedy about the fine line between fantasy and reality.
