Although 'Nosferatu' had a rocky start in the production, Murnau's adaptation of the 'Dracula' novel by Bram Stoker is probably the best version ever created. As it was an unauthorized production of the book, FW Murnau changed the names of the characters in order to make it legal.
Count Orlock decides to move from his ruined castle to Wisborg. Estate agent Jonathan Harker is sent to seal the deal, but his meeting with the vampire terrifies him. Orlock's thirst for blood is realised at the dinner table when Harker accidentally cuts himself with a knife. In a brief but story driven moment, Orlock sees a picture of Harker's wife and instantly falls in love (if love is what you can call it), fuelling his decision to leave at once.
Max Schreck plays Count Orlock, the vampire, to a degree that he is truly terrifying. Just watching his shadows move, or lift up in his coffin is beyond belief. Even though this was the first silent film that I ever saw, I was blown away as words did not seem to matter to the images on screen. Excrutiantingly well done for a film of 1922 and a 'Dracula' film has never come close to defeating the presence of Max Schreck, not even Christopher Lee.
Remade in 1979 starring Klaus Kinski in the same role, which is also worth seeing as it continues the imagery of rats and plague which is in stark contrast to the cliched suave Count Dracula. A spin-off film, 'Shadow of the Vampire' was released in 2000, where Willem Dafoe played the character very well in a story where they are filming the 1922 film, but the actor Max Schreck is taking his role rather seriously...
This can and should be enjoyed by everyone who is interested in the origins of horror and cinema itself.

Welcome to ciao! Sorry about the low rating but you really need to add more information... the film itself, where it is availabble now if it is... that sort of thing. Look at other film reviews to see the sort of thing you could write. Film reviews are hard to start with but I'm sure you'll be fine next review! Let me know if you edit it and I will gladly rerate. Interesting topic for first review. Heaven knows how you managed to find the right category, I still struggle when trying to find a film I want to know about. Welcome anyway. Pat.t
