Me in a nutshell: Aged 27, born in South Buckinghamshire, England but moved to Aberdeen, Scotland for university 10 years ago. And I'm still here.
Oh, and I'm a huge Cary Grant fan (and have been for about 17 years). That's all really.

In my opinion, this film is highly over-rated. Yes, my Ciao name is carygrant, and yes, I LOVE Cary Grant. But if he weren't in this film, I wouldn't watch it again. As it is, I have watched it zillions of times because Cary Grant looks absolutely georgeous in it. And that includes twice on the big screen. Each time I see it I TRY to like it more, but it just hasn't grown on me.
So why am I not a huge fan of this film? Is it because I don't like Cary Grant in thrillers/serious/dramatic roles? No. I love The Talk of The Town, Penny Serenade, Suspicion (until *that* last scene), None But The Lonely Heart etc. Is it because I don't like Hitchcock films? No. I thoroughly enjoy the rest of the films that Hitchcock made with Cary - Notorious, Suspicion and To Catch a Thief....and many other Hitchcock films also rate highly with me (Psycho, Rear Window and Dial M for Murder to name my favourites).
So what is it? This film bores me. It is average and nothing more than that, and that is being on the generous side. The script is nothing special, the acting isn't great - even Cary isn't up to usual standard (although some of the actors DO stand out from the crowd), and the film does not run smoothly at all. It seems disjointed and rough around the edges. Perhaps it's supposed to be like that - but why?!! I can't believe that people hold this film up as an example of Hitchcock's best work. If this had been my first Hitchcock experience it would have put me off for good. Fortunately, it wasn't.
Yes, NxNW is atmospheric. Yes, there are a few good scenes. And definitely yes, the soundtrack is terrific. But all in all, it's a film I stay away from unless I need a Cary fix.
I'm hiding under the table now to save myself from a barrage of attacks by NxNW fans. But hey, I became a Ciao member to express my opinions, so express my opinions I will do!
