<<<<< RUNNING ... ...the show. Peter Bogdanovich’s NOISES OFF! is on my list of the top ten comedies of all time, and not because it is sensationally funny from start to finish. It is a perfect example of struggling in the theatre, and I think any potential actors and directors out there should study it. The tagline says it all: just when they all get it right, everything starts going wrong!

Advantages: cast; funny story Disadvantages: tad confusing and slow
...My first clue that this Noises Off! is no tasteless comedy comes from the stylish rendition of “Broadway Melody” by Niki Haris while the camera pans glitzy Broadway in New York City. More indications follow with the caliber of talent gracing the screen: Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, Marilu Henner, Nicollete Sheridan, Denholm Elliot, Julie Hagerty and Mark Lin-Baker.
Director Peter Bogdanovich calls to mind the screwball ... ...some more in my seat. Noises Off! seems to be a popular, British stage play, made for the big screen with mostly American actors of the theater and screen. I wonder if this will be punishment for me and only a pleasure for Jan, noting the sounds behind me of popcorn and a cork popping, but I soon am swallowed up by the story unfolding and don’t heed her majesty’s entrance with refreshments.
It’s about a play called Nothing On, which hopes to be ...

Advantages: hilarious comedy with a stella cast Disadvantages: not as good as the theatre original
The first time i saw this was on a weekday afternoon on channel five... My grandfather and I were just settling down to some lunch and thought we woudl give it a try...
With a cast like Michael Caine (The Italian Job) Julie Haggerty (Airplane) and Carol Burnett (Annie) along side the ultra brilliant and much missed Christopher Reed (Superman) the late Denholm Elliott (Indiana Jones Raiders/Last Crusade) and the recently deceased John Ritter (Stay ... ...The story is a play within a play. Theatre director Michael Caine is struggling to keep his actors in order during their final rehearsal of a british sex farce. With the set only just being put up correctly it's a race against the clock to get it right at least once! The second installment see's the gang a few weeks into the tour only from a back stage perspective. And anything that can go wrong does go wrong... My nan rushed in to see what was wrong ...

Advantages: Fun, interesting, Fillion is great. Disadvantages: Associated with a crap movie, ending a bit tame
...The original White Noise was a terrible film that was based on an interesting subject, that of voices of the dead reaching out to the living via static on TV and radio, even when there was no actual show on. White Noise 2: The Light is a straight to DVD rip off that somehow made it to the cinema big screens, probably on the strength of the title and nothing else (though the recent sequels to Hollow Man and I Know What You Did Last Summer were unable to secure the same privilege)
White Noise 2 has very little to do with the original movie it takes it name from, in fact so little that you wonder if it was named after it was made in an attempt to gain more coverage and publicity based on it being a sequel. It certainly is a way to gain instant press coverage and viewer recognition.
White Noise 2, while taking a pinch of White Noise...

Picture is good but there is obviousfilm grain (which, of course, on DVD looks like noise). Despite the presence of a number of night-time scenes there is no artefacting or edge halos.. The encoding seems to be an accurate transfer of what was filmed. The sky replacements on two scenes and the day-for-night filming technique on one are made horribly obvious.
Sound is, surprisingly, rather interesting with consistently ear-catching use to surround channels for associated environmental and music effects.
Extras are minimal with a bunch of trailers for films that you are unlikely to be interested in (Suspect Zero, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid, Closer, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, The Forgotten).
The Dolby Digital Space logo is played when you select Play Movie from the main menu....
