Absalom is an island in ocean where the worst of the worst criminals are banished.
On the island, there are 2 sides. One is peaceful and the other are a group of maniacs ill bent on chaos and destruction. The latter are relentlessly trying to destroy the peaceful ones.

This film will appeal to sci-fi action fans. No Escape is set in 2022. The American prison system is now privately owned and is big business. An evil prison warden has a small island at his disposal that he uses to put the worst criminals in the prison system.
When Robbins (Ray loitta) is convicted of murdering his commanding officer he is sent to prison. Once in prison he is commanded to execute a fellow prisoner for transgressing one of the prison rules. During this scene he manages to hold a gun to the wardens head but gives up after a few seconds. He is the sent to a place called absalom. Absalom is an island in ocean where the worst of the worst criminals are banished.
On the island, there are 2 sides. One is peaceful and the other are a group of maniacs ill bent on chaos and destruction. The latter are relentlessly trying to destroy the peaceful ones.
The plot is a bit thin with the usual hero and the multiple villains. Ray Loitta puts in good performance as do some of the supporting cast, namely the leader of the peaceful group, the father (Lance Henriksen).
The film is full of stereotyped characters. The evil baddie in the form of the warden. The Father who can only be the mentor, the spy who is in the peaceful groups camp. You get the gist. Nothing much original in this film most characters and plots/sub plots have all been tried and tested before.
Martin Campbell directed the film, and was produced by Gale Ann Hurd (Aliens). Campbell went on to direct the Legend of Zorro (2005) and Vertical Limit (2000)

As far as the DVD release goes, there are no special features of any kind. Subtitles are available in 5 languages, audio only in English. So what you're paying for is only the film. But this being the only DVD edition, it the best you can get.
I would recommend this film to anyone who likes movies that mess with your head, any Terry Gilliam fans, and anyone with any of these on their shelf: Twelve Monkeys, Vanilla Sky, Donnie Darko, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. ...
Advantages: Powerful message Disadvantages: Often too disturbing to watch
a person as Buck, while being disturbed he understands that there once was a friendship there that should not be dismissed. A result of this past friendship means that despite how creepy Buck gets Charlie finds it difficult to just write him off. A downside of this is that while Mike White?s performance of Buck is remarkably fluid, Weitz performance is quite wooden and unanimated. In fact as annoying as Buck is to some degree Charlie is even more irritating.

Advantages: Once unique, gritty realistic, crime thriller still dazzles. Disadvantages: It's much more subtle than what today's audiences are used to.
late 60's (muscle car) automobiles racing through the streets of San Francisco. Director Yates is a cameraman and editor himself, he knows how to make a sequence work to its fullest effect. In this film he used William A Fraker as his cinematographer who create a realistic yet smooth (as opposed to a rough documentary type) look for the film. The film was written by Alan R. Trustman. It was nominated for a Best Sound Oscar and won an Oscar for Best Editing.
This is one of the best performances Steve McQueen ever gave. He gives the role the intensity and depth it warrants while still moving about as gracefully as a Panther. Bullitt and Junior Bonner remain my favorite McQueen performances. He is certainly no slacker in either The Great Escape or The Sand Pebbles either.
