Llewelyn is a hunter who stumbles across a drug deal which has ended in lots of dead men and $2 million in cash lying around, he grabs up the money and takes it back to his trailer which he shares with his wife Loretta. For some reason which I never really understood he then returns to the scene in the night only to find that now he has company and suddenly he is running for his life as the drug dealers attempt to recover their money and drugs.
A former Vietnam veteran Llewelyn can handle himself however he is being persued by Anton Chigurh a killer for hire who is utterly ruthless. Both parties are also being looked for by a police officer played by Tommy Lee Jones who is struggling to come to terms with the violence and pressures of his job as he approaches retirement.
Javier Bardemm is excellent as Chigurh, a very scary character, in fact all of the performances are really strong in this film and at times I felt like the dialogue passages were similar to those in some of Tarantino best work.
This is a tough action thriller with a lot of blood and gore in places, certainly there is not the humour that you sometimes find in Coen films. Definately an engrossing film and well worth watching.
Advantages: Good plot, some really fantastic characters, intriguing Disadvantages: tailed off towards the end

Advantages: Well produced and good cast Disadvantages: slow, bad ending
I know everyone before this film was raving on about it, so I was expecting quiet a lot. Film itself I found was very well produced, had a interesting cast and nice scenes. All the acting was up to standard, but for me the biggest let down was the story line. I just didn't get it. It throws you straight in, but I found the story just too slow for me. The ending was the biggest biggest let down, after forcing myself to carry on watching it, as I was ... ...I don't know if I just didn't get it, or if its just a blokes film. But I really didn't like it, felt like shouting at it afterwards!! But on the other hand, I watched it with 2 guys and they both loved it! Think this film is hit and miss. I wouldn't bother to buy it unless you know you want it. ...

Advantages: Bardem's performance, great script and direction Disadvantages: Plot twists may disappoint those looking for a conventional thriller
A drug deal goes wrong in middle Texas and Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) stumbles across the scene and finds 2 million US dollars that he decides to take. As you can imagine, 2 million dollars is not something that won't be missed and as such, Llewelyn becomes a hunted man and gets embroiled in a cat and mouse chase with a hitman (javier Bardem) from who he is constantly on the run. From Joel and Ethan Coen and from the pen of Cormac McCarthy, this ... ...deal of suspense and quirky characters none more so than the chillingly terrifying Bardem who must be one of the most enigmatic killers in recent cinema. Brolin is excellent as the Redneck chancer and plays understatedly throughout. There are also 2 wonderful turns by Tommy Lee Jones as the disillusioned sheriff and Woody Harrelson as the bounty hunter helping Llewelyn in exchange for money. Jones is as crumpled and grumpy as always but is perfectly ...

...performance. The entire film has no music which gives it a realistic, dark undertone. The film portrays Javiers terrifying character through subtle but extremely effective ways more impacting than blatant actions. For example one scene where he kills someone the death is not shown, instead you see him walk outside and check his shoes for blood. This may sound strange but for me this was one of the best moements in the film, look out for it.

NoCountry for OldMen
There are no clean getaways!!
I have been wanting to see this movie ever since the Oscars at the beginning of this year. This film won four Academy Awards including best picture so I was very interested to see what it was like.
It is directed by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan who are themselves 4 time academy award winners so I knew that it would be different and hopefully good. The film came out in 2007 and was actually adapted from the novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy.
The genre of this film is crime thriller. I would also say it is quite a physiological thriller as the drama was very nail biting, edge of your seat stuff. I have to say that if you are at all squeamish or jumpy do not watch this film as it was rather violent and in some places quite shockingly violent. After some ...
Advantages: Gripping Storyline, Well Acted, Well Written, Well Directed Disadvantages: None
mentioned above Javier Bardem won an Academy Award for best supporting actor, this was highly deserved as I said earlier, as he played his part brilliantly, however it did not end here, NoCountry For OldMen won 3 more Academy Awards, they were; best director and best adapted screenplay for Joel and Ethan Coen and it also won the coveted best picture award, so if my review does not get you to watch this great film, then maybe that will!
DVD Bonus Features
Also included on the DVD are the usual extras you get, including a program entitled 'the making of nocountry for oldmen' this is very good and if you enjoy the film it is well worth watching. There is also a short program about working with the Coen's and a diary of a Country Sheriff, these two are ok and give a luittle bit of insight into the two subjects and are worth watching ...

JC: Never mind. So, cowboys mean no dialogue, that cinematographer guy can make it all look good, Tommy Lee Jones holds it all together and the rest of the parts can be filled by gimps hanging around the studio.
EC: You've done Pulp Fiction.
JC: I just like saying 'gimps'. Why does the sheriff have to be old?
EC: That's kind of the hook. I'm going to call it 'NoCountry for OldMen' and the sheriff will mooch through the film bemoaning the fact that he can't relate to the modern criminal mind and the excessive yet pointless violence he continues to encounter.
JC: That sounds pretty lame.

Review
A scorching blast of tense genre filmmaking shot through with rich veins of melancholy, down-home philosophy and dark, dark humor, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN reps a superior match of source material and filmmaking talent (Variety, 22/11/2007)
DVD Description
With NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, the Coen Brothers have found a perfect match in Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy. Their adaptation of McCarthy's praised novel is a staggering masterpiece. In this almost impossibly faithful adaptation, the film takes place in a small Texas border town in 1980. Sheriff Bell (a never-been-better Tommy Lee Jones) has ruled the land for years without the use of a gun, but a new brand of reckless lawlessness has taken over his town. Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin) is an innocent Everyman with a devoted wife, Carla Jean (Kelly Macdonald), but when he stumbles across a drug deal gone deadly and finds two million dollars, he's determined to keep it for himself. There's only one problem. He's being pursued by one of the most amoral, evil psychopaths that the big screen has ever seen. Wearing an absurd haircut and brandishing a pressurized weapon that's used to murder cattle, Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) creeps forward on his mission to track Moss down and return the money to its rightful owners to save his own skin. As the tension mounts, the body count begins to rise, confirming Sheriff Bell's inability to battle this new wave of modern brutality.
The most striking thing about the Coen Brothers' thriller is their masterly use of silence to create an almost unbearable level of tension. Cinematographer Roger Deakins is once again at the top of his game, beautifully capturing this stark and lonely world. The well-rounded cast is clearly excited to be a part of such a stellar production--particularly Bardem, whose Chigurh is a freakishly mysterious monster, and is certain to haunt viewers long after the final credit has rolled. In a career filled with striking achievements, this might very well be the Coen Brothers' finest. It is filmmaking at its best.
