1968. There's never been anything quite like it, though it's inspired numerous pale imitations. Part of the terror lies in the fact that this one's shot in such a raw, unadorned fashion it feels like a home movie, and all the more authentic for that. Another is that it draws us into its world gradually, content to establish a merely spooky atmosphere before leading us through a horrifically logical progression that we could hardly have anticipated. The story is simple. Radiation from a fallen satellite has caused the dead to walk and hunger for human flesh. Once bitten, you become one of them. And the only way to kill one is by a shot or blow to the head. We follow a group holed up in a small farmhouse to fend off the inevitable onslaught of the dead. And it's the tensions between the members of this unstable, makeshift community that drive the film. Night of the Living Dead establishes its savagery as a necessary condition of life. Marked by fatality and a grim humour, it gnaws through to the bone, then proceeds on to the marrow.--Jim Gay

DVD Description
In director George Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, seven people secluded in a Pennsylvania farmhouse face relentless attacks by reanimated corpses seeking to eat their flesh. The group, which includes a married couple and their daughter, a pair of young lovers, and an African American man, try to keep their sanity as the living dead try endlessly to enter the house until they are laid to rest by burning or a severe blow to the head. As they listen to news reports of the zombie plague taking over the eastern United States, the ever-decreasing band of survivors loses ground in their battle to both keep peace with one another and stay alive. Romero's low-budget, homegrown classic went from being unable to find a distributor to becoming one of the most influential horror films of all time. Aside from its visceral impact years before realistic gore became the fashion, the film is also important for its portrayal of a black man as the protagonist during a time when race relations were an extremely sensitive issue in the United States. Romero's choice for the ending of his film also made a shocking and bold statement about the issue.
Advantages: Zombies are always fun Disadvantages: You HAVE TO find the right version - the Elite one
...If I was a zombie film, I'd be Dawn of the Dead. Night of the LivingDead would be my daddy, and the daddy of all my many and varied brothers. Plot. OK, a handful of mismatched characters board themselves up in an old farmhouse in the middle of nowhere and try not to kill each other. There are zombies too. Made very cheaply, this film manages to turn its flaws into strengths. The non-superstar actors lend it a sense of realism with their simple but effective performances. The main set, a house due to be demolished after filming, is perfectly convincing, looking like exactly what it is meant to be. The special effects consist mostly of meat, which stands in for genuine human body parts and allows some graphic and realistic scenes without much expense. The camera work is creative but not flashy, conveying a documentary...

Advantages: Romero zombie film Disadvantages: Predictable
...This is quite a good film, not as iconic as Dawn Of The Dead or Night Of The LivingDead though.
The third in Romero's famous 'Dead' films, brings us to an apocolyptic aftermath on Earth. The zombies that plaagued every nation have finally won their battle and consumed all livgin beings, except a small handful of survivors. Including military, scientists and what i believe are simply rebels.
The chief scientist is trying to find a cure to the infection, much like in the most recent installment of the Resident Evil trilogy. He is trying to subdue the sufferers, attempting to make them more human-like, trying to stimulate the memory which he believes they still have, trying to make them remember what it is like to have the most basic moto-neurone functions. Hand-eye co-ordination for example.
Obviously, he is being spurred...

Advantages: Case,Running Time"Exclusive, Bruce Campbell. Disadvantages: Dont wont to ruin it,
...This is an out-standing DVD specialedition of the Evil Dead 1 film made in 1981, directed by Sam Raimi (Spiderman 1&2/Grudge) and performed by Bruce Campbell (Numerous cameo-roles in films).
None of the other actors in this film have gone on to glory than Raimi and Campbell. Raimi is a now established film director, where as Campbell biography sums up his career, "Confessions of a B Movie Actor".
Evil Dead is a great film, which has gone on to be legendery in the horror film industry. This film will live on forever in all horror film fans minds and always has cameo roles now in modern horrors, i.e Posters on the wall etc.
The Evil Dead went on to greats, as a second Evil Dead was filmed aswell as a 3rd, but as always, its the first Evil Dead will be remembered the most. Costing a mere $350,000 (estimated), the special effects...
