Larry Daley goes from one job to the next unable to hold each one down for too long and consequently disappointing his son. However, when he scores a job as night guard in the Natural History Museum in New York City, his son thinks it is the coolest job in the world. But there's a surprise in store for Larry - at night the museum comes to life, due to an ancient curse that is held in a golden tablet, belonging to the Egyptian king, Ankmenrah. The only thing Larry has to do is ensure that nothing gets out of the museum as, when the sun rises, if anything is outside they will turn to dust.
With the instructions left for him by the three old night guards, Larry tries unsuccessfully to stop the mayhem that has erupted in the museum. Attila the Hun and his gang are running amok trying to kill everyone; the Neanderthals are trying to create fire; Jedediah, the leader of the cowboys, and Octavius, leader of the Romans, are in a war against each other; Rex the huge T-Rex is running around the museum playing with a giant bone; and Dexter, a cheeky little monkey, has stolen Larry's museum keys. His only help is Teddy Roosevelt, an old President of America.
But when the old night guards, with the old Cecil in the lead, steal the tablet, even more chaos arises and Larry has to get the tablet back, make sure none of the museum's exhibits turn to dust as well as not loosing his job and disappointing his son again.

This is a wonderful film for the whole family to watch. It contains a lot of humorous moments and is sure to give everyone, both children and adults, a lot of laughs.
There are so many popular actors in this film that it just can't go wrong. Owen Wilson was a great one for me as his act as the cowboy leader was just classically funny with a lot of sarcastic and funny comments. I'm not too keen on Ben Stiller when he is in his stupid and un-real movies such as Zoolander but, in Night at the Museum, he plays a down-to-earth and real to life character with no stupid or silly acting and no slap-stick comedy moments and, consequently, this is one of my favourite Ben Stiller films. He is a brilliant actor and manages to portray his sensitivity along with a comical side.
The story is a great one and you can only imagine what it would be like to see the inside of a museum actually coming to life. With the mixtures of the museum's exhibits we see a wide range of characters and there's something for everyone in the film.
This has to go straight to the top of anyone's list of family movies. It has everything you could want in this sort of film and is definitely one my favourites of this type of film.
