Released in Late 2006 this comedy, (I believe is based on a 1993 novel by Milan Trenc), revolved around a Museum and its mystical effects on a night watchman.
**BRIEF PLOT**
In New York city's Museum of Natural History Lawrence 'Larry' Daley, (played by Ben Stiller) begins a job as a night watchman, mainly to gain the respect of his son Nick, (played by Jake Cherry). Larry has had many dead end jobs in the passed, failing at all he tries, and is so terrified that Nick will prefer spending time with his future step father Don, (played by Paul Rudd), a high flying bond dealer on Wall Street.
He
is warned by the soon to be ex-night watchmen, Cecil, (played by Dick Van Dyke), Gus, (Played by Mickey Rooney) and Reginald, (played by Bill Cobbs), to leave some of the lights on in the museum during the night weird things happen during the night.
His first night turns into a rather strange adventure indeed as the night falls and the Museum takes on a life of its own……
Barely making it through the first night, Larry decides to continue to work at the Museum so his son doesn't see him as a failure…again….and each night brings more and more chaos and danger, involving everything from being chased around the building by a full size skeleton of a Tyrannosaurus Rex to refereeing between a battling cowboy named Jedediah Smith, (played by Owen Wilson) and a Roman General named Octavius Gaius, (played by Steve Coogan).
Then when Larry is rescued by a wax model of Theodore Roosevelt, (played by Robin Williams), he soon realises that he has to find out what is causing all the trouble in the museum.

**IN CONCLUSION**
Not a bad movie at all really, although the beginning is a bit slow as we are introduced to the story, but when the night falls the action and comedy really kicks in.
The story is pretty well written and really does keep the audience wondering what will happen in the following scenes. The special effects are quite well done indeed, with so many exhibits needing to be as frighteningly realistic as possible, making the movie more entertaining and comical.
Ben Stiller (who I always remember from an episode of friends as the screamer) does an excellent job as the stressed out and rather petrified night watchman, he is a fine actor and doesn't disappoint here.
All the actors do a fine job as the museum exhibits, running amok when darkness approaches, demolishing the interior of the building and making Larry's job very difficult indeed. Robin Williams plays the part of the love struck Theodore Roosevelt to perfection, with his crush on the beautiful Indian exhibit, Sacagawea.
The movie does last for an hour and 48 minutes and is worth sitting through.
Would I recommend this….? Yes I would. It has everything one needs for an entertaining evening in front of the flat screen Plasma television nailed to your wall… It has thrills, excitement, a bit of horror, plenty of comedy and a bit of the old romance… it really does have the lot .
Although the PG rating is well deserved, as there are some scenes which can be a little frightening for younger viewers, don't let your kids miss out on watching this, they will enjoy this immensely.
**NOTE**
There is apparently a sequel to this, I believe it is called Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian, and is due to be released in mid to end of 2009, I just hope it is as good as the first…?

Advantages: Good actors, something for all the family, fun storyline Disadvantages: not exactly entirely factually correct (regarding the exhibits, so I hear)
