This is a review for the 2 Disc special edition Night at the Museum.
~The Plot~
Larry Daley (Ben Stiller) is an unemployed no hoper who keeps getting evicted from his home and can’t keep a job down. It’s not until his ex-wife tell him that his 10 year old son Nick (Jack Cherry) can’t stay with him again until he gets settled and gets a proper job, that he realises he really does need a job. So he goes to the employment agency and insists he needs a job straight away. The only job they can offer him is a job at the Natural History Museum, so he goes along to see what’s what.
Upon arriving at the museum he finds that the museum is losing money and they need to down size, there are 3 night security guards who are getting on in life and it's time for them to retire so they need to replace them with just 1 new younger guard. So the main guard Cecil (Dick Van Dyke) gives him a tour around the museum and also gives him a set of instructions, which he is told to do in order and as quick as possible, and the most important thing to remember is not to let anything in or out. 1st night on the job he finds quiet boring and falls asleep but when he awakes all is not what he thought it was. He suddenly finds himself being chased by a huge T-Rex and realises he needs to read the instructions he was given. This night turns into complete mayhem only to be made worse by the cheeky little monkey called Dexter who pinches his keys and ruins the instructions. He gets himself into all sorts of trouble. The only person to help is President Theodore Roosevelt who is played by Robin Williams, who explains to him that everything comes to life because of the Egyptian Tablet that came to the museum in 1952 from the Nile Exhibition. Everything
else around him all comes to life and he decides at the end of the first night that this isn’t what he signed up to and decides he is going to quit the job, until he sees his son who is so proud of him for getting this job, that he decides to give it another try.
The second night he thinks he has every thing sorted but far from it, he gets beaten up by the monkey and finds that a Neanderthal has escaped from the museum, The place looks a complete mess. Come the morning almost everything is back in place but the Director of the Museum Dr McGhee (Ricky Gervais), wants to speak to him and want to fire him, but Larry asks for one last chance. He asks his son to come to work with him the following night because he wants to show him what happens. But at sun down he prepares his son for what is about to happen and to his horror nothing comes to life he cant understand why and goes to show his son the Egyptian Tablet but to his horror it's not there it has been stolen. Who has stolen the tablet? and more to the point why? will they get it back or not and will they ever restore the museum back to it's fantasy life? you will have to watch the film to find out.

~My Verdict~
I really enjoyed this film so does my partner and my 16 year old daughter and even my twins like it and they are only 6 years old. Ben Stillers role as Larry is perfect how can you take him seriously? You can’t. He plays the part very well and is very funny in parts. Ricky Gervais does not play a huge role in the film but his very dry sense of humour fit’s the part extremely well and had me in fits. Robin Williams usually plays a funny role but in this film i feel he just plays a part, and is not really that funny, but as i can gather the film makers didn't want them all to play there usually roles they wanted them to be different which is a shame because Robin Williams can be really funny. Owen Wilson who plays Jedediah has also starred in (Wedding Crashers and Starsky & Hutch) plays the leader of the cowboy group who is constantly fighting Steve Coogan who plays Gaius Octavius (I'm Alan Partridge) who is the leader of the Roman empire both fit the roles perfectly, both have very funny lines and for the two to usually have larger the life roles it is funny to see them play little people. Dick Van Dyke who plays the main Night Guard has a more serious role but overall he does fit the part very well. Overall it give it the big thumb up, I think it is suitable for the whole family even for younger children. The special effects are superb especially the dinosaur. I’m glad I brought the DVD and have watched it 4 times already and is just as funny each time. Very enjoyable and very funny. I don't know what else to say apart from put it on your to do list if you have not already watched.
~Disc 1~
This has the main movie on it, then you can go to the Scene Selection, here you can select which ever scene you want to watch. Language Selection: It is only in English but you can add subtitles to the movie if you wish. You can also add commentary’s to the film either by Shawn Levy the Director of the film or by the writers Robert Ben Grant and Thomas Lennon. They tell you about how the film is made while the film is showing. Special Features again this is just to allow you to watch the film with a running commentary, I did try it and didn’t like it at all. And last of all is Coming Soon this just gives you previews of other films out on DVD.
It is rated PG and states it does contain comic scary moments. It runs for 104 minuets and is by 20th Century Fox.
~Disc 2~
Here you can see extended or deleted scenes from the movie, again you can either watch them normally or you can have the commentary done by Shawn Levy.
The loading Dock:- This shows you deleted and extended scenes from the main film.
Hall of Biodiversity:- Bring the Museum to life Featurette - these shows you how some of the scenes are filmed. Blooper Real - this is really funny it shows you the mistakes that were made during filming. This part had me crying. Monkey Business - This shows you how they worked with the monkey.
Stage Coach:- Making Night at the Museum - This gives you the main story line of the film and how they filmed it. Music Video - This shows you the McFly song and video which is featured in some film versions during the credits. Theatrical Teaser - This shows you significant clips of the film that leaves you wanting more. Theatrical Trailer - Again this just shows you clips of the film.
Rexy;- This is a game where you have to put all rexy’s bones back into the right place.
Disc 2 is ok the best bits are the extra scenes bit and the bloopers i always like watching them at the end of the movie, they must of had a real hoot making this film.
~The DVD Case~
The 2 Disc Special edition comes in a very attractive case, the main case is placed within a sleeve which has a Holographic design on the front which I thinks looks really good. The characters are there one minute and then gone the next very good effects.
