Night at the museum was an extremely funny movie and I was hoping that number 2 would be just as funny. Sometimes with sequels they are never as good and I think the reason why number 1 worked was because it was new and different, would 2 be just a similar story again, rehashed to make a sequel?
Well, I didn't have to worry, number 2 was just as funny as number 1 and had enough different elements to keep it fresh and interesting. I think it has that perfect balance of an interesting story, cute funny animal characters, namely the monkey and fun characters that appeal to adults too.
Night at the Museum 1 featured a night guard, played by Ben Stiller. Larry Daley worked the night shift when no one else was in the museum but he was not alone. Due to an ancient egyptian artifact, the exhibits came to life and had many adventures during that time. The new movie is entitle Night at the Museum - Battle of the Smithsonian. Larry has now left the museum and made a success of himself. He sometimes goes back to the museum but not as much as he would like. It's during a visit back that he finds out that the museum is going digital and all the old exhibits are going into storage at the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Larry travels to DC and has lots more adventures with his old buddies in the new museum. This museum is apparently the biggest museum in the world and it's great to see some of the exhibits they have.
This film as got some great new elements that the first movie did not have. There are a couple scenes when Larry is in the portrait gallery and the people in the paintings are actually moving. He is able to climb inside the paintings and live in their world for a few minutes and it's really well done.
If you like history this is definitely a great movie for you too. It features old historical characters who come back to life and I think that's really interesting. It has made me want to read up on them and know more about their background history. It's a really great way of bringing history to kids in a fun, interesting way and if it helps them to learn more, even better. Some of the historical characters in this movie include Amelia Earhart, Al Capone, Ivan the Terrible, and Abraham Lincoln.
The film has a great heartwarming ending and I was pleased with the film in general, one I definitely recommend.
