New York - First City Of The World DVD

Disadvantages: NOT LONG ENOUGH

...The late great Benny Hill real name Alfred Hawthorn Hill was in my opinon a real comic genius,a true natrual,alway's simmering with mischief and a talant that will be sadly missed. I purchased this DVD for my Father who's a big fan and had to have a quick look. It shows a range of sketch's and gag's which are mainly shot on the streets of New York city. The Benny Hill's World, Look Out New York DVD brought back to me a lot of notalgia to the day's when Benny was on the telly chasing anything with a short skirt and slapping some small old bald guy on the head pretty damn quick. His show was axed by ITV back in the eighty's I think due to women's lib not wanting to be seen as sex object's but this saw the end of his thirysomething career.. . The DVD is not that long at 60mins which is a bit of a shame but there's more than a few... Read review

Advantages: good film

...Gangs of New York, when i first started to watch this film i was struggling to get into it, but i am glad i stuck with it as its a great film, it is based in New York in 1846 where a battle is fought against the Irish and the native Americans over the five points area of New York City. The film is where Bill the Butcher played by Daniel Day Lewis kills Priest Vallon, whose son, Amsterdam Vallon Leonardo Dicaprio is taken to an orphanage. The plot then moves on 16 years to where Amsterdam returns to the five points to seek revenge against his fathers killer. Amsterdam then earns the gangster's respect, he must also contend with Jenny Everdean played by Cameron Diaz. The film is Directed by the great Martin Scorsese and this lives up to his other films. Leonardo and Cameron play their parts really well, but i think Daniel Day Lewis... Read review

Advantages: entertaining, bit of history with references to Hercules, Prezzie character
Disadvantages: stale acting, not much dialogue

...I bought this movie more out of curiousity than anything when I first got it. Its an interesting concept, having an ancient character like Hercules be part of a modern city like New York, even if its the New York of 1970. The story basically centers around Hercules, who is discontend with living with his family around Zeus, who wants to go to Earth, despite his fathers wishes. On Earth he meets Prezzie, who gets him involved in the bodybuilding business, after first seeing him in a fight at a dock. Best scenes in the movie for me: When Hercules takes on the Olympic team training on a field. Thing to keep in mind with this movie is that it was shot in the 1970's so the special effects aren't up to what we have now. Otherwise its a funny and entertaining movie, especially with the naive dialogue from Arnold and the very humane character... Read review
