I love all Jackie Chan’s police stories. His Police story 1 movie brought about his best years in HongKong. Then, he started his career in Hollywood. However, he had some minor set back in his career before a rebound with the making of New Police Story, upon his return to Hong Kong. A nice story is like a nice dish with all the right ingredients: action, emotion, reputation, and imputation. The background of the new police story was based on the continuation of the character, Rong (Jackie Chan) 20 years on, from the story in Police Story 1. Rong (Jackie Chan) has grown up as a police legend with 100% success of cracking criminal cases. However, the legend was broken when Joe (Daniel Wu, young, handsome and sexy), Jackie Chan’s boss’s son led a group of teenagers from rich families to plot murders and robberies. Their fearless action, well organized plans, and fierceness killed all of Jackie Chan’s colleagues including his girlfriend’s (Charlie Yeung, instead of Maggie Cheung in the police story 1) younger brother. Although Jackie Chan himself survived, his guilt broke down his belief and confidence. He started getting drunk everyday until Fung (Nicholas Tse) came up. Nickolas Tse was another rising star in this movie and he is one of the favourite actors among the younger generation. Fung was a total dreamer of being a good cop with no real potential. However, a miracle happened when the old drunken police and the young police dreamer began keeping track of the criminal cases. The combination of melancholy and humour made the movie more attractive. The most touching part is the conversion between the son (criminal boy Joe) and the father (Jackie’s boss), which reflects in depth the meaning of family and kids and career. I expect another new Police story in the making. I love them all and will forever remain a loyal fan.
