To be honest, I didn't know that much about Nell McAndrew. I remember watching her on the TV show "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here" a while ago, and that she is always doing marathons and things, but I have not seen her on much else. I now know that Nell McAndrew is a bloomin' fit woman who really must have constant peak energy to stay in the shape that she is in! The DVD is hard work but I can see that if you use it regularly enough, you will get the results that you need. I would recommend this DVD to people who have quite a good fitness level already, as if you are a beginner, you may find the 40 minutes in one go just too much to handle! I have been a fan of my Davina workout DVD for 6 months now, and I still enjoy it. However, I decided perhaps it was time to buy another DVD, not to replace Davina but to chop and change with her, as doing one thing too much can get boring! I browsed the internet for reviews of different DVD's, and this particular DVD, Nell McAndrew's Peak Energy, kept on cropping up, so I thought what the heck, I will give it a go.
To be honest, I didn't know that much about Nell McAndrew. I remember watching her on the TV show "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here" a while ago, and that she is always doing marathons and things, but I have not seen her on much else. Even on this DVD, she doesn't say a lot, she does the introduction to the DVD which is about a minute long, and although she completes the exercises, she is not the one instructing or even talking through out the workout itself!
So, onto the actual workout itself. The DVD starts off with a 10 minute workout, which like the rest of the DVD is set to a pumping fast rhythmed dance soundtrack. If I am honest, I am not that huge a fan of dance music, especially this sort but I found it was quite fitting with the workout and the warm up on here. I had thought that the warm up would be quite gentle, with some nice stretches and a few movements, but not at all! It is quite hard working, you are constantly jumping around for the 10 minutes, warming up every part of you. Some of the stretches such as the leg lunges are quite hard, and I could really feel my muscles burning, but at least you know you are getting properly warmed up.
As soon as that has finished, it moves into the 40 minute workout. It is hard work from the off, and doesn't slow down at any point, making it a quite tough workout for anybody, even someone who is quite fit. Again, the dance soundtrack is playing throughout and the instructor is not so much telling you what to do as much as counting the repetitions of each exercise, and occasionally whistling!
The exercises involve star jumps, a lot of running on the spot, movement of your arms (which can be quite tough) and lunges with your legs. The title of the DVD is Peak Energy, and you really do need a LOT of energy to do this workout. My partner and I managed to do the whole 40 minute workout but I admit that I did have to sit down and catch my breath a few times. It really made my leg muscles ache, especially in my calves because of the constant jumping and running throughout the workout.
Straight after the workout, there is a section which is called Floor Work. This involves exercises for your tummy, back and other areas of your body. Obviously this section is less tiring because you are on the floor, but it still a tough section of the workout, and not one to be taken lightly. You have to make sure that you listen and look carefully to the instructor, as exercises such as the ones for your back can go wrong if you do not do it properly. There are also exercises for your arms including press ups (they wanted about 60 of these, I think I could manage only 20!), a lot of crunches and sit ups.
The DVD retails from 4.99 on some online retailers, so if you want a bargain workout DVD that works, get this one!
Advantages: Very easy to follow Disadvantages: Not for the beginner
...begining of the video by Nell herself, but she doesn't do any of the tuition through out the video, it's all done but a man. From the way he holds himself and the way he gives the instructions myself and my husband have deduced that he must be from a military back ground.
There a three parts to this dvd other than the introduction, which can be skipped. The warm up, the main routine and the cool down (or floor work).
When I first started this dvd ... ...warned if you haven't done any exercise in a while don't expect to blast though this. It's pretty low impact to start off with, just the normal stretching, and it slowly seems to pick up in gear - be warned if your legs hurt doing squats then don't do too many in the warm up as the routine will be almost impossible. There's a bit of jogging and walking on the spot, but nothing too much, there's just no breaks which seems to make it very intensive. ...

Advantages: Works You Hard! Challenging & Addictive Disadvantages: Disheartening at Times. Works You Hard!
...challenge and I plumped for Nell McAndrews Peak Energy. Thinking that I was relatively fit I stood there in my tracky one Monday evening and put the dvd on. My OH was out so no embarassment, I shut the curtains, got a bottle of water and sat down to watch Nell talk through a short introduction.
The dvd is split into a few sections. First there is the 10 minute warm up. The dvd is set in what can only be described as a disued warehouse. Concrete ... ...this yelling, sweating army guy, Nell, and a few other very fit people. The warm up is basically 10 minutes of jumping very fast and squatting, but I managed it and decided to go on to the next section - the main workout.
AAAArghhhh! The routines are not complicated. The music and exercises are very repetitive and easy to do. It is the speed and amount which is the killer. So much so that on my first attempt I collapsed on the sofa after 5 minutes, ...

Advantages: The free weights work and abs work is excellent. Disadvantages: The second workout is boring and monotonous.
...are going to buy a Nell McAndrew exercise DVD then I would buy her Maximum Impact or Ultimate Challenge DVDs. This DVD can get a bit boring. Like the other two DVDs it is divided up into 3 sections. The first workout is 10 minutes and is basically a warm up that takes you through a number of the exercises that you do in the Interval Training. The second workout is when all the hard work is done. It does really hurt and it will take a few times before ... ...section in the other two Nell DVDs are much much better.
However, the second workout does end with some brilliant free weights work. You can really feel your arms hurting and your muscles working during these exercises. If you wish to make these exercises either easier or harder then alter the weights used. The third workout works abs, bums, arms and legs. Once again this workout is probably more intense than on Nell's other two DVDs. The abs, bums ...

Advantages: An intensive workout that will definately burn the calories! Disadvantages: Definately NOT for beginners
...came about because it was Nell McAndrews favourite fitness class that she attended and she loved it so much she asked the trainer to make a DVD. When you are doing this DVD you feel very much like you are training for the marines! It is set in an aircraft hanger with the trainer bellowing out instructions and a pumping soundrack. It is definately not your airy-fairy Rosemary Connely workout with pop music and aerobics outfits. By the end of the video ... ...and you can almost smell the sweat coming through the television screen!!
If you love a really hard workout which gives you pain and tests your endurance then you will love this DVD. However, if its a bit of light stretching you're after this is definately NOT the right workout for you. I can honestly say that the first time I did this DVD I could not make it past five minutes and my legs were trembling with exhaustion!! You definately have to be ...

Advantages: Good work-out, all rounder. Disadvantages: Same as Ultimate Challenge, music not very motivating
After purchasing Nell McAndrew's 'Ultimate Challenge' DVD I liked it so much that I decided to buy the earlier 'Peak Energy' DVD to vary my exercise routine. 'Peak Energy' has a cardiac section, a weights section for arm toning and a floor work out section. I was aware from reviews that this DVD was similar to the 'Ultimate Challenge' DVD but when I watched it I was amazed at exactly how similar it is!!!!! I could see no difference in the cardio ... ...is in the floor work out at the end. Frankly, I feel a bit ripped off because of this. The music on 'Peak Energy' is vertually just one continuous beat whereas the music on 'ultimate Challenge' has some motivating moments. If you are considerring one of Nell's DVD's I would recommend 'Ultimate Challenge' and not 'Peak Energy' and definately don't bother buying them both!!!!! ...

Advantages: A high intensity and effective workout Disadvantages: May not be suitable for less fit people
do the whole DVD as I found it too hard so it was a really good challenge for me. As I persisted with the DVD I could do more and more and I could see massive results and feel my fitness levels increasing rapidly. Due to this DVD being challenging I have not become bored of it and use it regularly, so it has worked out to be very good value for money! I still do the workout nearly every day and I have had this DVD for nearly two years! I can now do the workout all of the way through every time and I feel fit and rejuvinated!

It's been a good 2002 for Nell McAndrew. The glamour model not only enjoyed a high profile role in the reality TV series I'M A CELEBRITY GET ME OUT OF HERE, but has found time to release this, her first fitness DVD. PEAK ENERGY is an easy to master aerobic workout set to a high energy soundtrack for health and weight loss.
