alternating between country squire and convulsive rocker. Silver & Gold is an exquisite addition to Young's pastoral offerings.Envisioned as the singer's first totally solo album, the 10-song set was reconceived and resequenced over the course of three years. Indeed, the four Young songs on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's problematic Looking Forward were taken from an earlier version of Silver & Gold, backing tracks and all. What's left is a spare, guileless assortment of tunes that owes a thematic and sonic debt to After The Gold Rush. The touchingly nostalgic "Daddy Went Walkin'" and "Red Sun" conjure up images of childhood contentment; Young's parents divorced in his youth, but they're sweethearts here. Love is on Young's mind in the idyllic tracks, "Horseshoe Man" and "Razor Love" and he reflects on his early musical career with the artless but oddly suitable "Buffalo Springfield Again". Then he pulls it all together with the cryptic closer,"Without Wings": "I'm pickin' somethin' up / I'm lettin' somethin' go" he intones. And one can only reflect on how appropriate it is that Young dropped a song called "Looking Forward" from his latest journey through the past. --Steven Stolder

Advantages: Great Songs Throughout, That Stand Together As A Great Cohesive Piece Of Work Disadvantages: Not Quite As Accessible As Harvest
After The Gold Rush was the first NeilYoung album released after his foray with Cosby, Stills, Nash and Young, enabling him to be shot into the limelight and the album to become of greater significance and prominence in the public eye. The album combined many of the elements of his CSNY work with some of his earlier pieces with Buffalo Springfield, with Crazy Horse backing NeilYoung on many of the album?s songs. This mixture of harder, grittier songs and country/folk acoustic pieces provides an interesting blend that helps to create a dynamic sound that can be different from one listen to the next. Although initially dismissed by some critics upon its release, again with Rolling Stone magazine dismissing it, as an unfinished piece of work, but this has slowly changed over time, and is now seen as a classic album, ranking 71st ...
Advantages: Alternative country/rock classic Disadvantages: none
is true to the music and who refuses to do the same thing over and over again.
Other notable inclusions include the title song "Heart of Gold" which is Neil's biggest hit single to date, A Man Needs a Maid - about Neil's then actress wife and Alabama, a re-hashed version of an earlier NeilYoung song "Southern Man" where Neil continues wage a war of words against the Southern states. To contrary belief, Lynyrd Skynyrd's Sweet Home Alabama which was written in part as a response to Southern Man and Alabama, was not intended to start a feud between the artists. Neil has often claimed to appreciate being associated with Sweet Home Alabama and Lynyrd Skynyrd have always remained NeilYoung fans quashing any rumours of a much speculated rivalry.
This is the first (of many) NeilYoung albums which I bought. I would recommend it to anyone ...
Advantages: beautiful music, makes life worth living Disadvantages: I REALY WISH THE AUDIO QUALITY WAS GOOD

His parents decided to part ways when he was 12. her mother moved to her family home in Winnipeg, Manitoba and here youngNeil began his distinguished music career.
NeilYoung is a true artist, a very highly gifted singer, song-writer, musician who was at ease with number of musical instruments like piano, harmonica and of course who can forget his claw-hammer acoustic guitar. With his electric guitar solos he drove his fans to frenzy.
