Leaving the 20th Century in style
Review of Manic Street Preachers - Leaving The 20th Century - Cardiff Millennium Stadium 1999/2000 DVD by  fairy_kitty

Advantages: A night with the Manics
Disadvantages: Crappy menu, expencive DVD

...‘Leaving the 20th Century’. Manic Street Preachers @ Millennium Stadium, Cardiff. South Wales. UK. Just for those who don't know, this was the concert that the Manics did on New Years Eve, 1999, which continued to New Years Day, 2000, early morning. I was supposed to be there :-( But, my own band had already been booked Months in advance for that night, there was no way of getting out of it, so I simply couldn't go :-( Being a HUGE Manics fan I was gutted, this was a real Once in a lifetime experience I missed, it’s not as if I’ll have the chance again! So, to try and make up for this, my Fiancé got it me on DVD as soon as it Was released :-) Yippee!! It was a fantastic concert!, everything was perfect, the fans were going bonkers, The band looked like they were having a blast, the stage... Read review

Withnail and I (20th Anniversary Edition)
Review of Withnail And I (20th Anniversary Edition) by  peach67

Advantages: Even more extras
Disadvantages: None!

...'Have you been at the controls...?' What can I say that hasn't been said already about one of THE best British films of the last 20 years. I originally saw this film at the cinema when it was first released. I loved it then and after countless reruns I love it still. Like most of it's avid fans I can quote most of the legendary script; with dry one-liners and scathing comment it seemed to sum up the ending of the 60s perfectly, as does the classic soundtrack. This re-released and remastered DVD includes some great extras, with the artwork, commentary and inciteful documentary adding to the enjoyment of seeing this classic as clear as the day it was shot. No film collection should be without this most excellent of films - if you haven't seen it yet - what are you waiting for?? If you have - you'll know what I mean...... Read review

A nice insight into 19th century Vienna
Review of The Illusionist DVD by  micksheff

Advantages: Interesting story, captures the era in which it is set
Disadvantages: Slow paced, drawn out in places

...I was tricked into watching The Illusionist, if you pardon the pun. A friend had recently acquired it on DVD and I had been subjected to his enthusiastic raves regarding how good this film was. As someone who is not particularly up to speed on films I hadn't actually heard anything about this film before, but I agreed to borrow it and last night I finally got the chance to sit down and watch it. The film is set in Vienna during the 19th century and tells the story of an illusionist that goes by the name of Eisenheim. During the opening scene of the film we see Eisenheim on a theatre stage, in an almost trance like state. Suddenly there is chaos and dozens of policemen storm the stage, uttering the words; "Eisenheim, we are arresting you for outraging public decency". This opening scene is actually a snippet from the latter part... Read review
