National Treasure has to be one of my favourite Disney Movies in the last 10 years, and even though I think of myself logically too old for Disney films, this particular film has such a likeable, watchable quality to it, and at times reminds me of my younger years. For me national treasure has everything, action, comedy, family feel movie, yet at the same time not too cheesy. The cast is brilliant, and with the addition of Nicholas Cage, Sean Bean and Jon Voight, this film certainly has some of Hollywood's best.
Plot:
The story is set in America, and the plot centres around Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage), who is a obsessed historian, who's family through generations have believe in a legend that their was gold hidden somewhere in America, by the founding fathers of America, to protect it from British Soldiers. However, to find the treasure, you must find clues, which are located all over the world. Each clue will lead them to another, until finally; they can piece together the treasure map and find the location. Ben's first clue takes him to the Arctic, along with his financer Ian Howe, it is their they find a pipe, which contains the next clue. However, Ian betrays Ben, and takes the map, leaving him facing imminent death. Somehow escaping, Ben realises the first clue, it printed behind the declaration of independence, which is guarded day and night, through the tightest security. The film follows Ben, his father, his love interest Abigail Chase and his best friend Riley. Can they sneak in and capture the declaration of independence, what will their next clue be, and what dangers do they face ahead, with Ian hot on their trail.
Ever since he can remember Ben's character has been fascinated with America History and treasure, his grandfather and father both tried searching for the hidden treasure much like him. Ben's character is very charming, clever and likeable; he doesn't want to find the treasure for financial wealth, but simply to make his family proud and to allow America to see the treasures.
Riley is Bens best friend and accomplish to finding the treasure, whenever Ben is in trouble you will usually find Riley somewhere with him. Riley is a math and computer geek, and this plays an advantage to Ben as it can help him hack into computers, etc. Riley's character adds humour to the film, which is needed as it's a Disney film.
Diane Kruger as Abigail Chase
Abigail is the special curator at the museum which holds the declaration of independence. She at first very much dislikes Ben, because of his plans to steal the declaration, however she soon realises Ben is telling the truth and thus decides to work with him rather than against him.
I was a big fan of this film, although not really at an age were I follow Disney films, this one was well worth the watch. It had everything you would want, a treasure hunt, comedy, action, romance. The special effects were not too bad, but this film was more about finding clues, it reminds you of when you're a kid and your pretending to look for treasure. It's a great family film, which I think any person of any age would like watching.

(+) Fast pacy spy adventure, with great music and some equally great stunts. (-) Stunts a bit far fetched - but you expect that with this sort of film.

Advantages: A good, enjoyable script, with an excellent cast and decent direction. Good choice for all the family or just a friday night in Disadvantages: Justin Bartha will either annoy you or seem like the loveable fool
Advantages: Good escapism, quite action packed, one for conspiracy theorists! Disadvantages: Very American!, story is pretty far stretched and confusing (though still quite enjoyable)
