the illuminating TV specialBeyond the Movieproves otherwise. While incorporating cast and crew interviews and film clips from director Peter Jackson's 2001 blockbusterThe Fellowship of the Ring, this hour-long documentary transcends timely opportunism to explore the myriad inspirations for JRR Tolkien's Middle-Earth fantasy classic, beginning with the influence of Tolkien's idyllic childhood in rural England, which served as the model for his threatened Hobbit paradise. Equally fascinating are the influences of Tolkien's experience in World War I and the "evil" of industrial development on his work, and more directly those of Anglo-Saxon poetry (notablyBeowulf) and the mythology of the FinnishKalevala, which formed the basis of Tolkien's elvish culture. The author's passion for nature conservancy and cultural preservation are what ultimately serve theNational Geographicagenda, but eloquent testimonials by archaeologists, anthropologists, and filmmakers make this a most agreeable hour of justified propaganda.--Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Review of ?Troy? 2 Disc Special Edition DVD
The DVD
I am reviewing the 2 disc special edition of the DVD. The movie was produced in 2004 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The movie received mediocre praise from the critics for the retelling of Homer's ?The Iliad?. The storyline is fairly loosely based on The Iliad, and Hollywood has used it's artist license to add to the tale.
The Special Edition consists of the 2 discs, one being the actual movie and the other a very interesting mixture of special effect techniques used in the production, an analysis of the battle scenes, a 3D animated guide to Greek myths and a look at the design of the sets used and the comparisons between Greek temples and ruins of the time.

The DVD has a runtime of 156 minutes, has subtitles in Danish, English, Finnish, German, Hebrew ...

Troy was a breath-taking film with a brilliant plot (admittedly based on a legend), amazing characters and some amazing special effects.
Story
The story was well written and believable, however, it is based on a historical legend and is not the work of the makers of the film, so while I liked it, I can't give anybody credit for it. The story was also refreshing in that the good guys lost, which is original.
4/5
Characters/ performances
This film had an amazing set of characters portrayed by some truly gifted actors such as Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom. There was a nice mix of brave, selfless heroes and some twisted villains. However, the film also impressed me in that it didn't see characters in black and white as many films do and there was good within evil and evil within good. There was also something to look ...

MY EXPERIENCE
Joel 's little face lit up when he realised Santa HAD got his Telescope request, and almost straight away we were gazing up at the British Sky, which was still misty from the Snowfall, showed him how to spot birds nest, which he found interesting, the quality is high, from trusted Brand, and easy ...
