With the traditional spaghetti western becoming something of a cliche, Sergio Leone chose to parody the very tradition which he made into a success and which subsequently shot him to fame. The result was My Name Is Nobody. Starring Terrence Hill who'd come fresh from previous comedy western hits like Just Call Me Trinity and Henry Fonda in his final western, the film is about a drifter who identifies himself as Nobody and idolises accomplished gunslinger Jack Beauregard (Fonda).
As he progressed further in his career, Leone became more and more insecure about his work, by this stage assigning himself role as producer, although an overbearing one at that granting himself directorial duties on a couple of scenes. The principal director of the film is credited to Tonino Valerii who successfully creates a lighter tone to the usual western while at the same time maintaining an air of excitement. The excellent soundtrack comes courtesy of Ennio Morricone who elects to compose an over-the-top score to parody his previous westerns.
Although it was destined to fall into obscurity, the resulting film is funny, memorable and enjoyable and sits comfortably alongside Leone's somewhat small body of work. Any fans of Leone will recognise this as a different type of work but one definitely not to be missed.
Comedy Western spoof with many spectacular scenes. An ageing gunfighter sets out to avenge his brother's death.
