criminal who sees the light when he loses a winning lottery ticket after getting hit by a car. He decides his bad luck can be chalked up to bad karma, and sets about making amends with everyone he has ever wronged. This very long list includes a former victim of Earl's schoolyard bullying, whom he helps to come out of the closet, and a one-legged girl from whom Earl once stole a car. Ethan Suplee (MALLRATS) plays Earl's slow but good-hearted brother and sidekick, Randy, and Jaime Pressly (NOT ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE) plays Earl's ex-wife, Joy. Guest stars on the show include Beau Bridges as Earl's father, as well as Giovanni Ribisi (LOST IN TRANSLATION). Playing out like a small-screen version of a Coen brothers film, MY NAME IS EARL is funny, creative, clever, full of heart--and one of the best television series to come down the pike in quite a while. This collection presents the four series of the show in their entirety.

launch of a lovable new loser. Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) sleeps all day and drinks all night. The pattern ends when he buys a scratch card--and wins $100,000. Seconds later, he's hit by a car and loses the ticket. While in the hospital, wife Joy (Emmy nominee Jaime Pressly) leaves him for Darnell the Crab Man (Eddie Steeples). Doped up on morphine, he's watching TV when Carson Daly says something about karma. Earl decides that's his problem: bad karma. He resolves to spend the rest of his life making up for all the harm he's ever done. In the pilot, Earl and brother Randy (Ethan Suplee) start by picking up litter around their motel (Joy got the trailer). While they're at it, Earl finds the lost ticket and collects his bounty. The plan is working! Along with comely maid Catalina (Nadine Velazquez), they set off to right more wrongs. Created by Greg Garcia and teamed withThe Office,My Name is Earlput NBC back on the must-see comedy map. Unlike most sitcoms, it drops the studio audience in favor of flashbacks, freeze frames, first-person narration, and extensive So-Cal location work. A soundtrack heavy on blue collar favorites, like Lynyrd Skynyrd, completes the picture.Throughout the season, Earl gives an old girlfriend self-respect ("Faked My Own Death"), plans his ex-wife's big day ("Joy's Wedding"), and makes up for the birthday he ruined ("Monkeys in Space"). First year guests include Brett Butler ("White Lie Christmas"), Juliette Lewis ("The Bounty Hunter"), and Emmy nominee Jon Favreau ("O Karma, Where Art Thou?"). Giovanni Ribisi and Beau Bridges also stop by as, respectively, Earl's pal Ralph and father Carl. Speaking of originality, "Dad's Car," which takes place during Mother's Day, features commentary from the mothers of Lee, Suplee, Garcia, and director Marc Buckland.--Kathleen C. FennessySeason 2: After cooking up a winning formula for the first season, this karmic comedy could afford to shake things up. In Earl's equally successful second, there's an episode incorporating clay animation ("Robbed a Stoner Blind" with Christian Slater), an homage to Cops ("Our 'Cops' Is On!" with Kathy Kinney), a two-parter set in Latin America ("South of the Border" with John Leguizamo), and a Tarantino-style whodunnit with narration split between Earl, Randy, Joy, and Crab Man ("Buried Treasure").As before, Earl (Jason Lee), in cahoots with brother Randy (Ethan Suplee), continues in his quest to become "a better person." He starts by turning to Camden County strip club owner Richard Chubby (Burt Reynolds) to get ex-wife Joy out of a jam involving stolen merchandise ("Jump for Joy"). Joy's struggle to evade prison will last all year, during which Earl falls for her "hot professional" lawyer (Marlee Matlin). Other highlights include "Sticks&Stones," in which Earl gives a bearded lady (Judy Greer) back her confidence, and "Larceny of a Kitty Cat," in which the allergic Randy dates a feline fancier (Amy Sedaris). When that comes to an end, he finally works up the nerve to tell motel maid Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) how he really feels about her ("Foreign Exchange Student').From the start, Earl attracted a colourful array of talent. That trend continues with Roseanne Barr as a nun ("Made a Lady Think I Was God") and John Waters as a funeral director ("Kept a Guy Locked in a Truck"). Emmy nominees Giovanni Ribisi and Beau Bridges also return for a few episodes, along with other first-season favourites, like Patty, the Daytime Hooker (Dale Dickey). As with the previous set, there's a bushel of extras, including deleted scenes, commentary, and a blooper reel.--Kathleen C. Fennessy, Amazon.comSeason 3: So strong and simple was the original premise toMy Name Is Earlthat its a surprise to few its managed to fuel three straight seasons of the show and counting. Earl, played magnificently by Jason Lee, is on a continuing mission to make things up with every person hes ever managed to upset or offend, and its to the credit of the writers that they continue to mind this in quite such inspired fashion.Which makes it puzzling as to why the third season ofMy Name Is Earltakes, for long periods, a different direction. Instead of working on his list of karma, Earl instead finds himself in more traditional sit-com scenarios. Its a not entirely successful gamble, with particularly the coma segue missing the mark.Thats not to say, however, thatMy Name Is Earldoesnt work, because some of the writing in this third series is as good as anything the show has delivered before, with a plethora of belly-laughs to look forward to. And you cant help but admire the boldness in some of the thinking here. It may not be the strongest season of the show to date, but it is nonetheless arguably the most interesting. --Jon FosterSeason 4: The fourth and final season ofMy Name Is Earlcontinues with the overriding idea of Jason Lees Earl going down his list of wrongs to right. Its a simple concept for a show, as Earl tries to restore karma to his life, and it lends itself really well to the episodic format of a comedy show.Season four ofMy Name Is Earlwisely gets things back on track after a bumpy-and-not-entirely-successful third series, and delivers many standout moments in the classic tradition of the show. It also fills in a few bits of back story, and the laugh count, while not quite up there with the shows debut season, is nonetheless back near the programmes peak. It goes without saying that the ensemble cast of characters, led by the terrific Jason Lee, are as fun to watch as always, and are set to be sadly missed now that the curtain has fallen on the show.Perhaps the biggest disappointment withMy Name Is Earlis that it doesnt end particularly comfortably. There were clearly plans afoot for a fifth season, and that does mean that those looking for a finale with a nice big bow are in for a disappointment. Those, however, tempted by one last run for a very funny comedy series are far more likely to have their investment rewarded, though, andMy Name Is Earlis set to be a show enjoyed on DVD for a long time to come. --Jon Foster

~~~~Bad things happen to bad people…
Earl J Hickey (Jason Lee, Mallrats, Chasing Amy) is a small town crook, who by his own admission would steal practically anything that isn't nailed down! Earl lives in a trailer with his wife Joy (Jaime Pressly, Not Another Teen Movie), two kids that aren't his and his and his brother Randy (Ethan Suplee, Without a Paddle, Cold Mountain) lives with them on the sofa. They spend most of the time they aren't out stealing in the local Bar, where Darnell (Eddie Steeples, Torque), otherwise known as 'Crabman' brings them beers and suspect food that he can't serve to paying customers. That is until he wins $100,000 on a lottery scratch card and instead of getting better; his life starts to fall apart.
Within seconds of revealing the 3rd and winning $100,000 on his scratch card Earl is run down by a car and ends up in hospital in traction with some broken bones. As he lies in the hospital bed coming to terms with the fact that his $100,000 scratch card blew out of his hand as he lay in the middle of the road, leaving him with nothing, his wife Joy arrives and gets him to sign the divorce papers. Apparently Joy and 'Crabman' are going to get married so that Darnell can bring up his son, Earl Junior!
~~~~Karma!
As Earl Lies in bed reflecting on his 5 seconds of fortune followed quickly by his divorce and homelessness his life takes another twist, but this time for the better. As he flicks through the TV channels he comes across Carson Daly, who while talking about why his life is so good says, "I believe that what goes around comes around and that's how I live my life. You do good things and good things happen. If you do bad things, they'll come back to haunt you. It's Karma"
It's at this point that it all makes sense to Earl. "Got me thinking, my life sucks, and I ain't ever done nothing good that I can think of". When he is finally released from hospital he checks into a Motel with his brother Randy and begins his crusade to get a better life. Earl has made a list of everything bad he has ever done and he is convinced that if he can make up for the 259 things on his list his life will be better. As he begins to make up for number 136 'litter bug', by picking up the same amount of rubbish as he has littered in his life, the £100,000 scratch come floating back to him. Karma baby!
~~~~Stole a car from one-legged girl
Each episode follows Earl as he tries to amend for the bad deeds on his list. These range from 'Stole beer from a golfer' to 'Faked my own death to break up with a girl' and 'Stole a car from a one-legged girl'. Despite his apparent lack of intelligence and basic schooling Earl is committed and amazingly effective at putting right his wrongs. Aided by his brother Randy, who doesn't really understand the list or Karma but wants to help his brother finish the list so they can get back to stealing, and with some help from his other friends, Earl begins to work on getting a better life.
As Earl begins to work through his list he soon finds that making up for everything on his list will be harder than he thinks as the bad things he did have had knock on effects, not to mention the list keeps getting bigger as he makes a note of everything bad he does as he tries to fix things.
I won't go into any more detail as the fun of the show is to see how things unfold.
~~~~DVD Extras
~~"Bad Karma" - Aka the 'lost plot'. This short episode runs for 13 minutes and looks at what would have happened if Earl kept flicking past Carson Daily and ended up watching Family Guy. Stewie Griffin gives him a different outlook on life, "If people screw you over, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and kick some ass man! Vengeance, if someone hurts you, you hunt them down and beat them like a dog. Sweet, sweet vengeance!"
So Earl writes a list of everyone who's ever done anything bad to them and he's going to get them back and as with the real Pilot first on his list is Kenny. As Kenny always made him feel stupid, well, he needs to get Kenny to feel stupid.
This is a great addition to the DVD and I have watched it quite a few times, always makes me laugh.
~~Deleted Scenes - There are about 9 deleted scenes (I lost count from laughing!). There are some pretty funny deleted and extended scenes. You'll only get a few laughs from here though and there is nothing special that you'll keep watching them.
~~"Karma is a funny thing" Blooper Reel - I've watched the Blooper Reel a couple of times now and I always start by thinking that it's not great or very funny. The thing is after a few minutes I'm hooked again and remember that it's actually good for a laugh. The majority of the Bloopers are Jason Lee cracking up or taking gibberish, but it is a good laugh and you can see how much fun it must be to make the show.
~~"Making Things Right: Behind the scenes of My Name is Earl" - An interesting insight into the world of My Name is Earl. The whole story is based on real life, the life of creator Greg Garcia. The mini documentary style features the cast and crew and gives a good behind the scenes view of the show. At 36 minutes though it is quite long and not very funny, so I won't be watching it over and over, but well worth a look, just to see how much work goes into each episode!
~~Soundtrack Promo - I'm not sure why I'm even mentioning this. A 30 second advert for the soundtrack that I regret watching even once, must have taken all of 5 minutes to produce.
~~Audio Commentaries - There are 7 episode commentaries as well as commentary on "Bad Karma". I'm not a huge fan of commentaries, but there are some interesting facts to be gained from these. Apart from "Bad Karma" I found myself getting pretty bored of the commentaries, but if you like them it's an added bonus.
~~~~Karma is a funny thing
Although I am a big comedy fan, it is rare that I find a comedy that makes me laugh out loud, but My Name Is Earl had me crying with laughter at times. There are no weak characters and each member of the cast really adds to the story and comedy. The great thing about My Name Is Earl is that not only is it a great comedy that will make you laugh it will also make you feel good. The comedy appeals to so many different levels that I honestly believe that everyone can find something in here to make them laugh.
Everyone's opinion of what is funny and what isn't is so different. However, I really enjoyed the 1st Series of My Name Is Earl and I can't wait for the 2nd Series to be shown over here. The fact that I bought My Name Is Earl on DVD shows how much I enjoyed it, as the only other comedy DVD's I have spent my hard earned money on were Father Ted, Black Books and Spaced! I have had the DVD since it was launched and keep watching it, in my eyes this was money well spent. Especially if you think that at £24.99 its only £1.04 per episode or £0.04 per minute! A Bargain you must agree!
If you like your comedy a bit off beat and irrelevant, and why wouldn't you, then I would definitely recommend My Name Is Earl! Especially as you'll be able to pick it up for much less than the £24.99 I paid for it by using the Interweb.
Advantages: Special features (not seen before on TV) Disadvantages: The episodes have already been shown on TV (but their worth watching again anyway!), otherwise there are no disadvantages
...Y2K).
This show, in my opinion, is quite original and full of laugh out loud moments, its well worth a watch if you missed it when it was shown on channel 4 earlier this year. Its not your average Friends-like US sitcom, its different but its good, very good!
Very good comedy with a subtle message behind it, you have to give this a watch. The DVD boxset is very good, it contains all 24 episodes from season one (series one) and also comes with quite ... ...the 'lost pilot', deleted scenes, a blooper reel, a behind the scenes featurette and audio commentaries on selected episodes. The featurette I thought was very good, it introduces you to many of the people who work on the shows (the director and producers and so on). Most of the feature has the shows creator (Thomas Garcia) discussing the show, he talks about how the major networks didnt think the show would be a success and thus the struggles they ...
