My Little Ponies are back in force and 2005 saw the release of the entire collection of My Little Pony DVDs from Hasbro. Although its a new DVD they graphics are based very much on the old fashioned 1980's style ponies and the songs are very oldy worldy too. However as a manic my little pony fan I had to buy them all. A bit like pokemon, but with added glitter.
My niece adores my little pony and thought the world of me when I unveild the collection. Timeless cuteness and beautiful animation is what I beleive keeps these little equie cuties a lasting favourite.

Cost: £4.99
Place of Purchase:WHSmiths
Release date: Oct 2005
Number of DVDs: 1
Region: 2 (Europe)

Cover:
Snap booklet style DVD case the disc sits on a spindle upon a baby blue plastic background. Inside the case you get a thin piece of glossy paper which tells you a basic tralier mini poster.

Story:
The first episode (split into 4 parts) is called 'The Glass Princess' , in this episode Porcina the pig has a mission, she trys to turn everything into glass to reflect her image and show everyone how prettty she is. She is able to turn everything she sees in to glass by using her magic cloak, but it gets ripped and has to send it away to be mended, but it can't be mended with any old material, it has to be mended with hair from a My Little Pony!
The new cloak gets made from pony hair which she manages to steal from the ponies and Porcina turns Ponyland into glass. Oh, no! So Megan and the ponies must save the day!
Good episode but the pig isn't as pretty as she thinks and the voice that they chose for Porcina can really get quite irritating if you watch it too many times. Graphics are quite good, but not as good as the second episode which has more vibrant colours and a more catchy lovely song.

Episode 2: 'The Quest for the Princess Ponies'. This story also split into 4 parts tells the tale of spike the dragon and the ponies. This is my favourite episode on the DVD and teaches a very important lesson, to be glad of what we have and that friends come in all shapes and sizes. A cute and original way of teaching the 'don't judge a book by it's cover' lesson. In this story Spike the dragon meets the Princess ponies when they are just in the middle of a big fight. They are arguing over who will be queen. The fight is soon over as is inturpted by a lava demon who comes and kidnaps the princesses! Oh no! The lava demon kidnaps the ponies so he can get his hands on their magic wands. The princess ponies must work together, with a little help from Spike the dragon, to over come their fears to stop the lava demon and regain their wands.

Animation:
A basic yet vibrant animation theme throughout, not the best graphics which is a shame as it was produced as a new film, not one of those old films put onto DVD format. However the pictures are still very cute and the film combines lovely drawing style animation with a lovely storyline. Theres only one or two noticable glitches where the screen randonly changes from one colour to another but doesnt at all detract from the essence of the storyline.

Extras:
Limited extras to a small mini intro to each mini episode. And is missing sing along featurettes that I believe any good childrens DVD should have. However its a cheap DVD and the songs in the episodes are, although quite short in length, enjoyable enough.

Overall 4 star rating, the animation in this DVD is rather bland in powdery pinks and blues. In comparison to the graphics of the 'very minty christmas DVD' it is quite a let down. However on the storyline basis and the unique way this DVD has split two stories in four parts is an interesting and effective method in My Litle pony Episode apprach.
Its good as it keeps attention of the little ones. At over 1.30 hours of viewing it allows a pause to get up and go have luch, a drink or a trip to the toliet without missing parts of the story.

Also the cute songs are a wonderful addition to the DVD, and unlike others there actually is a featurette. So awarding a 4 star rating, a muct have for any My Little Pony Mad persons DVD collection!
Thanks for reading, take care, mintz x x x

Will probably end up with this one. My little girl collects ponies(or rather im collecting them in ready for when shes older) the 80's and 2000's ones are great but the ones they released in the 90's were awful.
