Back Ground: My Girl:
In My Girl we meet Vada for the first time, we soon understand that she hasn't had a normal upbringing with the mother dying at Vada's birth she was brought up my her father Harry a local undertaker. Vada is obsessed by death making her slightly stranger than most young girls. Vada does have a best friend however a boy called Thomas J he is also slightly strange as he is allergic to most things he has also had a strange child hood. Together however they are a perfect pair, this is a story about friendship, coming to terms with loss and learning to accept changes.
The Story: My Girl 2:
This time we re-visit Vada at the tender age of 13, Step mum Shelly is expecting a baby and dad Harry is still running the funeral home. Vada is set a school assignment to write about someone she admires but whom she has never met, she decided to write about her mother. Vada looks in her box of memories about her mum and she comes across a brown paper bag folded with a date written on it, she asks her father what it means but he does not know, in a quest to find the truth Vada decides to spend her summer vacation in LA with her Uncle Phil, this is where her mother grew up so she is hoping to track down some old friends of her mothers. Vada is helped on her quest by Nick, Uncle Phil's girlfriends son, he shows Vada around and not only do they discover information about Vada's mother but they start learning allot about themselves as well.
The Characters & Actors:
Harry Sultenfuss (Dan Akroyd):
Vada's father Harry is protective of her having brought her up on his own since she was born. He is unsure of her trip to LA and gives her lots of advice about staying safe, but he is somewhat preoccupied as Shelly is due to give birth to his baby. Dan Akroyd is brilliant as Harry bringing slight humour to the overprotective father role. Dan is well known from the Ghostbusters Movies in the 80's.
Shelly De Voto Sultenfuss (Jamie Lee Curtis):
Shelly is a kind and caring lady who has taken Vada into her heart, she is aware that this is a difficult time for Vada and that she may feel left out because of the new baby coming. She is sensitive to Vada's needs so when Vada decides to go on a quest for information about her mother Shelly is supportive and encourages her Harry to let her go. Jamie Lee is great as Shelly she is a very versatile actress and she has played of number of great roles including; Laurie Strode in Halloween, Helen Tasker in True Lies and recently Tess Colman in Freaky Friday.
Vada Margaret Sultenfuss (Anna Chlumsky):
Vada is struggling to adjust from childhood to adulthood, dealing with problem friends and boys. Choosing her mother for her assignment is a way for Vada to find out about herself and who she is and where she came from. Anna rose into the spotlight with the role of Vada in My Girl starring next to Macaulay Culkin, but after this sequel she seemed to just disappear, I wouldn't be able to name you another film she has been in.
Nick Zsigmond (Austin O'Brien):
Nick is a young boy on the verge of becoming a man, at first he opposes spending time with Vada but he soon learns not to mind. Austin gives a good performance as Nick but just like Anna he has not really been seen since.
Phil Sultenfuss (Richard Masur):
Uncle Phil is fun characters still very young at heart, he is pleased to have Vada come to stay and tries to help find out information about her mother. Vada also helps him out with a thing or two on her stay as well. Richard has had quite a few supporting roles in films and American dram series' like Law and Order.
What I thought:
I am a big fan of My Girl and wasn't sure what to expect of a sequel, the story was sweet and a little sad but it did not capture me in the same that My Girl did. I think the film lacked the talents that Macaulay brought to the film, it was captivating in the first film watching the young children's relationship grow and blossom and although Austin gave it his best shot it just didn't leave me with the same effect. Personally I feel that they should of left with the first film, My Girl 2 is a good movie to watch if you really have nothing better to do but exciting and captivating it is not.
Technical Bits:
My Girl 2 was produced in 1994 and was directed by Howard Zieff who also directed My Girl in 1991.
My Girl 2 is a PG film and runs for approx 99mins.

I enjoyed the first My Girl so I was excited when I heard there was a My Girl 2 ; although I didn't know that there was one until thirteen years after it's release! I bought my copy of the DVD from play.com for a small price of £2.99.
I liked how it led on from the first movie as it allowed ...

Advantages: What happens next Disadvantages: Nowhere near as good as the first one
I was given My Girl (the first one) years ago and absolutely loved it. (I have written a review for those of you who would like to take a look.) I saw My Girl 2 in an ex rentals pile at the Video shop some years later and bought it. I had heard of the sequel but had only caught a little of it one Christmas. I was thinking that it would be just as good as the first one but unfortunately it isnt. Sequels often aren't I know but My Girl was a fantastic ... ...Hippie)
My Girl 2 is a follow up of "My Girl". The story continues, baisically. You don't necessaraly have to have seen the first of the films to understand this but it is an advantage. The first film gives you more of an insight into the main characters whereas My Girl 2 shows you how they have developed and changed. In My Girl you follow the main character, Vada Saltenfus, through the most traumatic time in her life. She is 11 years old and the ...

MY OPINION
++++++++++
I am finding it hard to review the series, the further through the boxset that I go. Gold was not a patch on the first two series and did not feature half of the characters. It seems to have "jumped the shark" to term a phrase and it has become somewhat unbelievable.
The format has also changed in that each story is wrapped up within two episodes. There is an ongoing ...
Advantages: Great film, great direction, great individual performances, gripping plot Disadvantages: Slightly dodgy lighting, plot not properly explained
: Jürgen Prochnow (Beverly Hills Cop II, Twin Peaks, The English Patient)
Is fantastic right up to his death.
Baron Vladimir Harkonnen: Kenneth McMillan (guest appearances on Kojak, Starsky and Hutch, Murder She Wrote, Magnum)
Absolutely disgusting skin diseases. The less said about him, the better.
*CREW*
Director: David Lynch (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks etc.)
Good direction, shame about the lighting.
Producer: Raffaella de Laurentiis.
Writer: Frank Herbert (can?t think of anything else he?s written, except the Dune series)
Music: Brian Eno (Castaway)
Marty Paitch (Pretty Woman, MyGirl, The Fugitive) etc.
*DVD EXTRAS*

2. Theatrical Trailer (that deep voice-over man must be so rich by now?)
3. DVD Credits ? really not that exciting ...
