potentially interesting spins on which it rarely delivers. After a couple of pilot episodes that pushed into OTT visual stylishness, the show has settled into mildly repetitive though watchable blandness: for the most part it avoids story arcs and a large cast of regulars in favour of plugging its characters into the stock plots of television SF, such as doubles, vengeance crusades and untrustworthy lovers. On the DVD:Mutant X Series 1, Volume 2contains the following episodes: "The Meaning of Death". A plague that kills mutants forces Adam to work with Mason Eckhart and the invulnerable mercenary Marlowe in the knowledge that any cure he comes up with will lead to a double-cross. "Lit Fuse". Brennan is attracted to energy-absorbing Ashley, who is being set up for betrayal by bounty-hunter Cross. When she absorbs Brennan, things get really complicated. "In the Presence of Mine Enemies". Jesse's hacker girlfriend Toni is forced by Eckhart to betray Adam's hideout Sanctuary and the computerised journalist Proxy Blue. Can the tables be turned? "Crime of the New Century". Youthful mutant firestarter Joshua is kidnapped, rescued and then turned over to the GSA by a renegade FBI agent. "Dark Star Rising". The survivors of a commando team have been altered into mutancy by scientists and want vengeance for their dead squad members. Mutant X helps them stop Eckhart getting the secret serum. The DVDs also contain trailers, a feature on the elaborate stunts and interviews with stunt coordinator Paul Rapovski, show runner Howard Chaykin and Victor Webster (Brennan). --Roz Kaveney

...friends.
Lisa Kudrow-
Plays Phoebe Buffey. Sings loads of crazy songs which match her personality. Completely hopeless but very funny.
Matt Le Blanc-
Plays Joey Tribianni. Obsessed about becoming an actor, who is just as dizzy as Phoebe, and never really getting anywhere in the acting world.
Mathew Perry-
Plays Chandler Bing. Who's only defence is his humour, very laid back, with many people in the series thinking he is gay.
David Swhwimmer-
Plays Ross Geller. A nerdy palaeontologist whose wife left him for A lesbian. Sister too Monica, on and off all the time with Rachel.

Advantages: The early days are the best Disadvantages: There are only 24 episodes!
...By now it should be clear to regular readers of my ops that Friends is one of the things that rocks my world. Im going to write a detailed overview of all the episodes in series2 and give some details about the boxset.
The boxset I have consists of three discs, the older series' have different styles to the newer ones. Seasons 1-6 are available for around £15 now in shops and on the internet. The newer seaons cost much more, unless of course you know about the wonder of play.com and cdwow. Newer boxsets cost arounf £80 in HMV and MVC but they can be had for around £40 on the internet, and thats even before you check out Ebay!
The reason websites such as play can offer better prices is that they import region 4 dvds which are good on region 2DVD players and PS2's.
Series2 is a certificate 12 which means that parental...

Advantages: excellent drama very well acted Disadvantages: very few extras
...This is one of the best dramas of the 1980s. The boxset has all 3 series and the bonus 'reunion' episode. The series concentrates on the women's POW camp. The three series are based on real life experiences. Despite this being an excellent drama it is not the type of thing you can say 'I enjoyed watching that' Despite it having a 12 certificate I personally wouldn't recommend it as suitable for anyone under 15.
During the three series we see the women suffer at the hands of the Japanese guards. Food rations being cut, low medical supplies and death could only be around the corner for one or even all of the women.
The cast are fantastic. Stephanie Cole (better known as Diana Trent in Waiting for God) as Doctor Beatrice and Burt Kwouk as the sinister Captain Yamauchi to name but two.
The cast changed slightly each series but I...
